Watching the press conference, McVay does not look like the usual upbeat guy we see after a draft. Hands in his pockets, letting Snead do most of the talking, giving short responses to some of the questions - I really think Snead pushed this one. We'll see how it shakes out but there were so many other players we could have taken if we were all in this season. I get how important a QB is in this league but there's nothing about Simpson that would put him over some of the veterans we could have potentially picked up.
I’m telling you everyone doing the “see, this means McVay is sticking around post-Stafford” is reading this completely wrong. I think Snead knows McVay could bounce at some point. This pick is Snead’s off-ramp to a post Stafford era. I don’t think it’s McVay’s.

Well............. Simpson..................... must be stoked. He won the draft.
Stafford must have let the Rams know he would not stick around all that long. If Simpson sat the bench until he was 30, I am fine with it.
Not going to happen.
If this is McVays guy, his personal choice, he must have like him A LOT in the interviews.

Not in the first round. Such names like Mitchell Trubisky, Dwayne Haskins and many more litter the QB graveyard.

But I’m done arguing. I’m a Rams fan. That means supporting my team, thick and thin, sickness and health, life til death.

I hope Simpson is the next Joe Montana.
I am with you Memento

I have said my piece and Will support him. To a point. If after a few years and he is consistently suffering from injuries then …

This is the most consistent analysis I’ve seen out there from draft pundits and coaches/players. “Perfect landing spot for Ty Simpson, but not sure why the Rams took him there”.

So they were wrong about him, correct? Could have drafted an impact player instead, correct?

Look, it is what it is. I've stated that Simpson was a pick I'd be disappointed in...and so I am.
But I'm not distraught or ranting like many others.
Basically I wanted the "high" of a fan who was looking forward to a player who could contribute this season instead of a QB in round 1.
Could have drafted an impact player in the late fourth round? Let me put it this way, there was only one Pro Bowler drafted after we picked Stetson Bennett at pick #128 in the 2023 NFL Draft. Guess which team drafted that Pro Bowler? I'll give you a hint, that team plays their home games in Los Angeles.

If McVay was planning to bounce, he'd have used the pick on an immediate impact player. There's no way he'd let Snead use the pick on a QB for the post-McVay era.

This honestly feels worse than losing to Seattle in the NFC championship game.
At least there we lost to the slightly better team overall.

This is like seeing our SB window nailed shut for the next 5 years.

It would be one thing if this guy looked like a future franchise QB.
But he doesn't even look like he can play.

I won't even bother watching the draft the next few days after this.
Absolutely sickening.

The only rationale for this pick is “I trust Snead and McVay”. That’s it. There’s absolutely nothing else about this pick that makes sense. There’s no other way you can justify outside of the fact that Snead really likes him.

He played one full season of college football (and he barely got thru that!!) and he wasn’t very good for the second half of it. He’s 6’1. There is no historical analog that anyone can point to and say “that player had similar size and experience to Ty Simpson, and his career turned out great!”. It literally doesn’t exist.

I am beginning to believe the Rams just didn't like anyone else on the board so decided, "What the heck. We will take Simpson"

This was a very weak draft after the top 8 picks.
I wonder the same thing. Thinking they were hoping someone like Downs or Tyson dropped. When they didn't, then the idea of taking a potential future starting QB with a salary cap saving 5th year option became the best choice. I feel they want a WR, but they rated players like Lemon or Cooper as not much better than those that will be available in the 2nd round, so QB became the best option.

McVay’s mood and body language seem off, so it really makes you wonder if they weren’t on the same page tonight.

I remember that Ty Simpson thread post way back, I think my post was "no f'ing way they take Ty Simpson"...lol

I'm in shock honestly but thinking about it, I do think it makes sense as long as it's both McVay and Sneads guy. Only have a max of 2 years with Staff left, probably just one.

Still have a few picks left in this draft so hopefully we can get a starter or two. Still have free agency too.

You must be a glass half empty guy generally because I really don't read it that way.

McVay doesn’t have final say. You can watch the footage of McVay and Snead interacting in the war room over recent years and it takes 2 seconds to see which one is making the final decisions. Does Snead respect McVay and his input? Absolutely. But Snead is the one making the call.

We probably all wanted the Rams to pick awide receiver for the now, and the rest of the picks depth pieces and for the future.
What better future pick could be made than that our future QB? Plus we can trust the McCsnead co-op to find a receiver 3 tomorrow.
