I just think we could have gotten him later in the 1st. Who was getting him? The Cardinals? Jets? Idk man. It’s just hard to be excited about a guy that we MIGHT see in a few years. And the worst part is he’s not all that athletic. Just think Lemon was the best option.
Well lemon was available all the way to 20 so we “could have gotten him later” too

The Rams had to be thinking that the Jets at 16 may take him. If he is the guy - you don’t risk losing the guy.

There are a handful of QB needy teams. I'm going to trust our GM when it comes to deciding whether they can risk a trade down or not. Those guys have a lot more info than I do about what other teams are planning. If the Rams think Simpson is worth a first round pick, you take him where you are sure you can get him. QBs are too valuable.

Lol what? He's 6'1" and 211 pounds... and there's a shit ton of QBs who translate to NFL with only 1 real year of starting in college.
Lmaooo what?!?

Point them out then. List the number of QBs, 6’1 or shorter with fewer than 15 starts, that had a good NFL career. Hell, you can even get rid of the 6’1 requirement if you want. Just make a list of NFL QBs with 15 starts or less. I look forward to reading your list!!

College game is a different landscape than what it was even 4 years ago....

Not in the first round. Such names like Mitchell Trubisky, Dwayne Haskins and many more litter the QB graveyard.

But I’m done arguing. I’m a Rams fan. That means supporting my team, thick and thin, sickness and health, life til death.

I hope Simpson is the next Joe Montana.

Full of mixed feelings about this pick.

On the downside, disappointed we won't get an impact, plug-and-play guy for the offense this year. Lemon or Cooper would have been decent picks there and both could have come in and been major contributors as a rookie. So that is definitely a downside. As good as our offense was last year, Cooper or Lemon could have made us un-fucking-stoppable.

I can't say I know enough about Simpson myself to have a strong opinion on whether this was a good pick or not, but I do give a lot of deference to McVay's ability to evaluate QBs. He saw something and he was willing to take a shot (and yes, this WAS a McVay pick ... no way Snead would have taken him without Sean's input).

For Simpson himself, it's hard to imagine him going into a better situation. He's coming to a team with a top 3 HC (maybe even best overall) and an offensive mastermind. He doesn't have to play this year, and he gets to sit and learn behind the league MVP and should-be HOFer. He will be given time to develop in an environment that well-suited for that, probably better than anywhere else he could have gone. If he does work out, this pick will look like genius in a few years.

Another thought, going back to WR ... McVay must see someone in the 2nd round or later that he thinks could be a steal, and given the record he has with Kupp and Puka, we know he can see things other coaches can't. Both of those cases yielded solid 1st round talent for a 3rd rounder in one case and a 5th rounder in the other. So maybe we can still get that plug-and-play guy.

Yeah, my instinct was "we could have moved back and gotten him". But then I remembered Bobby Wagner

I haven't been here for a while, but I absolutely HATE this pick.

We have a very short window to win the super bowl with Stafford.

I watched this guys highlights, and I don't see anything impressive besides his ability to run around.
Since when does that translate to success in the NFL?
It looks to me like an ACL injury in waiting.

Both Lemon and Sadiq were there for the taking, which would improve our offense dramatically this season.
With Puka one night away from a suspension, and Adams a year from retirement, either of those guys would make us a hugely improved team.

I honestly hope he tears his ACL and never plays a down for us. Fuck this pick, and fuck these idiots making these decisions.

Oh, and FUCK the people that run this board that delete posts.

If we were relying on him in 2026 it would concern me but sitting for a year or two with McVay and Stafford coaching him makes me fine with it. It's all good, it's a gamble on McSnead's part I'll admit but I see the benefits.

Yes and experience has become an even MORE important factor. That’s why guys like Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels are coming in and playing well right away, and guys like Trey Lance and Anthony Richardson will bounce around from team to team.
