Because the team is trying to win NOW. They just wasted a top 15 pick on someone who likely won’t see the field for 2 years. He is a long term project.
It is the most important position in sports by far - not even close to second place. Our QB is great but is year to year. At some point this has to happen. This was our shot - if this is the guy that they chose then this is the fucking guy.

I'm not sure why folks on this forum are complaining. I love this for two reasons:
1. Simpson looked damn good making the throws that are key to our offense.
2. It tells me that Sean McVay is planning to stick around for the long haul. He picked Stafford's successor.

The fact that Snead played a role in convincing Simpson to declare tells me that they're very high on this kid.
Point 2 is awesome. Many cant see that.

We had no needs for a starter. Yes we could use another WR but we can get one later. Look at our top WR's under McVay! Kupp in the 3rd and Puka in the 5th. We have McVay and we have arguably the best WR coach in the NFL. We didn't need to take a WR here. Would it have been nice? Sure it would have but it wasn't a need. IMO there were no needs. But we have no backup QB until this pick and we're better with Simpson as #2 than Bennett and anybody who argues that Bennett is better needs help.

Anybody we drafted other than Simpson is battling for his spot so this makes sense securing our QBotF and backup for 2026.
There are so many quality WR to be had in 2nd round

I don't believe the pick makes any sense for the future because I am not a Simpson believer. Hope I am wrong but it sucks.

I wish I could find myself happy about a first round qb selection we make. I've hated and felt this after the selections of Bradford, Goff, and now Simpson. :laugh1:

I like that he comes into a good situation. I like that he has some legs and some mobility. Appears to be a good kid with some moxie.

I worry about his size. Small sample size of work.
I feel this pick was a great spot to add a player who can help with our title run this year. Simpson ain’t that.
