Anybody want to be brought back down to earth, listen to Simms talk about Simpson. Not that he's right or wrong but I wonder where he came down on the pick when it happened. That certainly may color his commentary. He said, "Simpson didn't give me any WOW moments whereas Mendoza and Allar both did".
Shrug

These guys are right, in that Chase Daniel went too far by saying "and it wasnt particularly close." Why people need to ruin a good thought that is accurate with over the top hyperbole added at the end I will never understand. That last extra-added, unneeded comment refutes the credibility of the previous correct statement. Just say "Ty Simpson had the best first weekend of the rookie Quarterbacks." And leave it at that. It might be right, it might be arguable. When you grossly exaggerate falsely at the end, the original statement is then in question. People just go too far.

Also, this over analyzation of every single thing that moves in week one of the preseason is vomit inducing.

Everybody is anxious for the regular season to start, even the talking heads!!!

The guy on the right made a final point >>>>>> "This was a glimpse at the argument for drafting him 13th". And he's right. This is the issue....was Simpson worth the #13 pick. We know he's not going to play as long as Stafford is healthy. Probably won't play if Stafford is injured. But the pick was obviously made with an eye towards the future, when #9 hangs it up. And the first preseason game showed a glimpse of what he may be able to do.

He's got all season to watch and learn, while working on his mechanics......all off season to work on his mechanics some more.....probably all next season to watch and learn, work on his mechanics.....and then finally in 2028, he should be ready, Stafford can retire and McVay has his replacement. By my count he has roughly 21 months from today to watch, learn and work. That's way more than most 1st round QBs get and he'll be getting that under the tutelage of HOFer Matt Stafford and HOFer Sean McVay. Somehow, I feel extremely confident he's going to be okay.

I went back and watched all 25 of his passes (he had one that was a no play because of D holding). He made 4 really good throws. He rolled out more than half the time. Most of his passes in the 4th quarter were straight drops. He showed patience. He showed he can go through his progressions. He showed good touch and accuracy. WTF do we expect from a rookie in his first action, even if it was preseason?

I look at his performance as a positive step. Nothing more nothing less. I wouldn't have been crushed if he had struggled badly, concerned, but not crushed by it.

What he did do is display poise and accuracy and in this offense, with that staff, he really just needs to do that. They will scheme him to success if he can just do that early in his career.

My apologies.

He rolled out 7 times. Dropped straight back 18 times. Made 6 really good throws.

QBs can play almost an entire career and we still won't know exactly who they are. What's the point in making a judgment based on a single preseason game?

If Stafford had never been traded to the Rams and the Lions had continued to stink, I bet the way the media characterized his NFL career would be considerably different than how he's viewed today. I wonder if he'd even still be playing, maybe he'd be retired, because it wouldn't be any fun to lose.

Who cares what people say about you? Just do your job, block out the noise. Emmett Smith once said something like, no matter what you do, it still isn't good enough. Even if you have SB rings and are in the HOF, some people will still try to bring down Smith and say he was overrated. Football isn't a popularity contest. Critics are going to hate. Just play.

Remember the famous Mel Kiper argument with the Colts GM? What's up with the need to prove you were right about a draft take and pounding your chest? In hindsight, both of those guys were wrong. They both looked silly. Let it go. Nobody is a true expert when it comes to the draft or football in general. Even the greatest football minds, the best HC and GMs have made crazy errors in judging their own roster or prospects.

The one definitive thing I'll say right now is this: Ty Simpson is not a garbage QB. He's not one of these early round busts where we'll look back and say he should have been an UDFA. Is he a legit franchise starter? Is he going to be an All-Pro or HOFer? No idea, we'll see. But, at a minimum he's a solid backup. He's not a QB who doesn't know what he's doing and is incompetent. High floor. Unclear how high his ceiling will be. Wake me up when you think he's hit it. Until then, people talking is white noise.

Nobody said anything about "pounding their chest". Fans? Who gives a fuck if fans pound their chest? A franchise or a GM or a HC? There is definitely a need to prove you were right about a draft take if it's a first round pick. Particularly a first round QB. Absolutely. Because that's job security. Of course nobody is right about draft choices all the time. But it's important to be right half the time. And if you're going to draft a QB in the first round, when everybody and their mother is saying, "they should have taken somebody who is going to help them THIS YEAR", it's important to be right. It's also important for a multitude of reasons beyond what people say. So yeah, it's extremely important for the Rams to be right about Simpson. And it's not to pound their chest. Fans or front office. A slow head nod will do.
