But it’s his defense. He calls it. I’m only talking about the Defense.
Which is irrelevant when he's the HC. It's hard pulling double duty. Some great coordinators can't do it.

Agreed, but I don't think Staley is your Jim Schwartz/Spags type; he's had fantastic defenses and has terrible defensive stats.
And Spags is up and down. After he left Rams a few bottom-two defenses. Chiefs fans wanted him late in season. This year his defense is good---best one he's had since 2008. Often depends on personnel and other factors. Schwartz has been very good and also so-so

Happens to good coordinators ... get in bad situation and their defenses can go south.

Either way I'm good with it. If he gets a head coaching job we get a 3rd round comp pick with him being a minority. If he doesn't get a job he stays with us. I'm good with that too. I think he's done a superb job considering what he has to work with. Quite a few people thought this could be the worst defense in the league. They're nowhere near that. Give credit where credit is due.

Bolded will never happen around here. Too many have too much invested in hating Morris.

OND out here punching air.....

Morris has his warts, but I honestly think this is his best coaching since he got his HC job. I think he got flushed too early in Tampon for what that's worth....

Not necessarily true. I've been very critical of Morris in the past, but I give him plenty of credit for the job he's done this year. I didn't like what Morris did during the regular season in '21 (playoffs is a different story altogether), hated what he did with the D last year, but I have no beef at all with what he's done this year, and actually think it's quite remarkable given all the talent we shed in the offseason. He's actually got this year's D playing better than last year, and that's after losing Ramsey, Floyd, Gaines, ARob, etc.

Vanillahan was a good OC, terrible HC. Spags was a good DC, terrible head coach. That's just a small sample.
I'll take Staley if Morris moves on.

I really hope Raheem stays, Like him or not and I do it can be a real setback to add a new DC and get the personnel and coaches up to speed. Not to mention the unique personnel twist that may lead to yet another loss and reload of talent. Stay the course.

No thanks on Staley, its not that he flamed out as a HC, he took over a team that was offensively sound and just needed the D to match up. With all the weapons they have, the D got worse. He may have been a 1 hit wonder in 2020, and down the stretch the defense was humbled a bit, namely not being able to stop a for-shit Sam Darnold and the Jets and being undressed by GB in the playoffs

I'd wager we'll see a post by a certain someone about how Big Rob is the best OT the Rams have ever had and give us a full on novel about his HoF credentials than see the vast majority of RoD embrace Morris.

That Green Bay game… zero adjustments.

So many people just defaulted to blaming Reeder.

They share the blame for me, Staley did start him afterall. Just as I blame Morris for playing Hoecht so massively out of position.

Didn't Staley have a more talented roster when he was here. The Chargers D is underperforming.

My problem.. for that specific game, with blaming Reeder… is that the biggest runs came when they motioned Reeder out of middle & Staley never adjusted.

As far as Hoecht… do you mean at OLB? Or just when he drops?

Deano thought he was sticking it to Stan hiring his hot shot coordinator. Turns out it backfired on him. :laugh3:

Yeah, if Morris is getting more with less this season, Staley has gotten less with more.

Seems like there is not a consensus what the problem with the Chargers defense really is. The sum of their parts hasn't resulted in a cohesive whole.

I'm not necessarily against Staley returning, but it requires a closer look at why he's been unable to replicate his 2020 success.

He's not an OLB IMO and he shouldn't be played there.

Got it.

I just don’t think that’s a Morris-only issue.

They didn’t bring in anyone who can actually play the position right now, other than Young.

Best in a group of bad options, imo.
