The problem is that the NFL has tried to punish individuals - and individuals have legal rights that they have to work within. So the NFL does a punishment, and it can be overturned.

OTOH, between Spygate and Deflategate, the TEAM has two strikes already. If they can investigate and find proof of tampering with the headsets, that would be a third strike against the team, and they can greatly escalate the punishment.

Personally, I think an effective way that won't be as noticed by the paying public would be to strip away some of the Patriots' salary cap space for a number of years - say 15.5% with every other team in the NFL getting an extra .5% so that the NFLPA can't complain about league salaries being reduced. Combine that with the Patriots during that time being ineligible for comp picks, and maybe a few regular draft picks being stripped. That would make it virtually impossible for the team to be competitive, while not being something easily sued over. And make it clear to the Patriots that if they're caught doing anything else the punishments will become more severe for each count. The only way to reset it would be a total change of the Patriots' management - HC, GM, President, owner.

it seems like an easy fix. let an official in the booth, listen in to the play call. If he can't hear the play, stop the play clock.

The only thing more nauseating than the "in your face" cheating last night was watching that poser Kraft come out and "dance" around with the trophy pregame... He believes that he is The Show.

I'm glad this cloud will always hover over them like the worst smelling fart of all time. It's their permanent badge. It will always be with them.

It's not just that. It is the fact that not only have the Pats cheated over the years, but visiting teams have known over the years now that there have been many occasions where something messes up with the headsets. To the point where visiting teams started to expect it to happen. With how much the Patriots ownership, players, coaches, etc are trying to portray to us how they are not cheaters and the things they've done in the past didn't matter much, you would think that they would be doing what they could to make sure that things go smoothly. To include having employees make sure headsets are up to par. At the very least the first game of the season. But they've earned the reputation they have. Did they cheat last night? Probably not. But it is what it is until they can go a great length of time without something like this happening. Btw, the Steelers lost that game themselves. Two missed field goals, not scoring a td at the one with a first down, Heyward-Bey not getting his foot in bounds. Would have been nice if they executed and won.
Exactly, they lost the game themselves. But the headline wasn't about Pits mistakes, it's about the possibilty of cheating. The league should oversee every aspect of the pats and how they go about their business so we can end this bs.

Steelers’ website makes strong claim about Headsetgate
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 11, 2015, 8:15 AM EDT

As he detailed problems his coaching staff had with the headset communications on Thursday night, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin stopped short of coming right out and accusing the Patriots of cheating. But the Steelers’ website makes clear that the team believes the Patriots were in control of the audio problems the Steelers’ coaches were having.

An article on the Steelers’ website says that the audio communications problems started and stopped repeatedly — always stopping when a league official came down to the sideline to deal with the matter, then starting up again when the league official left the sideline area.

“This is the kind of stuff that happens to the visiting team in Gillette Stadium all the time,” the article said. “From the start of the game through the opening 14 minutes of the first quarter, the Steelers’ coaches’ headsets were receiving the Patriots Radio Network broadcast of the game. The broadcast was so loud that the Steelers coaches were unable to communicate, and the NFL rule is that if one team’s headsets are not working the other team is supposed to be forced to take their headsets off. It’s what the NFL calls the Equity Rule. Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast.”

It’s impossible to read that as anything other than the Steelers accusing the Patriots of cheating. The allegation is published under the byline of Bob Labriola and is not presented as an official statement from the Steelers, but you can bet that a Steelers website writer wouldn’t write that if he thought the higher-ups in the organization disagreed with it.

The NFL says the headsets are provided by the league and the problems on Thursday night were a technical issue that got fixed early in the game. But that won’t stop those who are inclined to believe the Patriots are cheaters from thinking that the “technical issue” was caused by someone who works for the Patriots. That’s clearly what the Steelers think.

It's called being a sociopath ;)
Yup, you got it.

A sociopath senses that Goodhell and NFL HQ is now weak in light of the Brady reversal, so it's an opening for them to exploit their new found power even more. This is really sick stuff going on here. It's going to take a really strong commissioner to correct this, otherwise its just going to get worse, way worse.

Eddie George was on FSN the other day basically saying he expects they cheat. He said their teams coaches would GET ON THEIR ASS about leaving the playbook out when they went to New England. More so than anywhere else. Said the coaches would act really weird about their meetings when they went there too. Said you hear stories from all over the league, and it's basically known.

Bill Belichick blasts 'sad' allegations against Patriots

Bill Belichick has had enough.

This morning the coach finally spoke out against the allegations of cheating that have been levied against his team, and he was fired up.

Earlier in the week SI and ESPN ran stories about purported Patriots rule-bending, and last night Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had headset issues and pointed the finger at the home team.

Belichick is sick of it.

"I just think overall, it's kind of sad really, to see some stories obviously have an agenda to them with misinformation and anonymous-type comments," Belichick said. "Complaining about warm drinks and trash cans and stuff like that, I think it's a sad commentary and it's gone to a pretty low level. It's sunk pretty deep."

The coach maintains that his team's continued success is a result of work ethic and the enviornment in Foxboro, and he took a shot at opponents crying foul.

"First of all, I would say that I think our program here is built on competition and trying to improve every day and trying to work hard, and it's not built on excuses," Belichick said. "Just trying to improve and find a way to get better."

What seemed to have Belichick most irritated though, was the notion that Spygate aided his dynastic teams of the early 2000s in winning three Super Bowl in four years. Belichick believes that was one of the most talented groups of all-time, and he rattled off the names to prove it.

"You know this organization has won a lot of games," Belichick said, "but particularly in reference to the great teams from '01, '03, '04, back in there, and all the great players that played on those teams: Ty Law, (Lawyer) Milloy, Otis Smith, Rodney Harrison, (Tedy) Bruschi, (Larry) Izzo, (Willie) McGinest, (Mike) Vrabel, (Anthony) Pleasant, (Richard) Seymour, Matt Light, (Joe) Andruzzi, Steve Neal, (Deion) Branch, Troy Brown, (Tom) Brady, Antowain Smith, Kevin Faulk, Corey Dillon, Lonnie Paxton, (Adam) Vinatieri - to take away from what those guys accomplished, what those teams accomplished, how good they were, how many great players we had, how well they played in big games, how they consistently showed up and made big plays and game-winning plays.

"It's not right. Those guys, they were great players - and many more - but those are a few of them, and great teams. So, I'm not going to get into a back and forth on it, but that's the way I feel about it."

The kicker in regards to the latest cheating allegation, is that the Patriots were dealing with malfunctioning headsets too.

The league controls these communiciations, not the home team.

NFL VP of football communications Michael Signora, who on Thursday night blamed the headset issues - which Belichick said also affeced the Patriots - on a power issue said today the league would investigate more about the problems.

"Technological and stadium infrastructure issues of this type happen at many stadiums around the league and whenever there are issues of this nature, we do a thorough review," Signora said.

The Steelers said on Friday that they do not intend to file a complaint with the league over the issue. And they added that once the headset problems were reported and addressed, "we did not have further problems in the second half."

The Patriots headsets were so bad that the coaches couldn't communicate with Brady at all at some points.

"It's not an uncommon problem," Belichick said. "We had to signal some of our plays offensively because we couldn't get them in. We look at it as something you have to be ready for every week, and we practice it."

You know what I think? It's like the spitball in baseball. Teams start to worry about the cheating aspects of the game, and it puts them on the defensive.

The Patriots psyche the other team out ... and it works.

The problem with when you have lost all credibility is that nobody believes a word you say.

The only way to reset it would be a total change of the Patriots' management - HC, GM, President, owner.

This is true. BB should have been ousted 15 years ago.
