I am pretty shocked he managed it. If a player fumbles that far into his career, that consistently, all throughout college, and well into the NFL, it does not typically get better. Somehow he found a way! Williams deserves huge props!
Yeah, he pulled a Tiki Barber......earlier than Tiki Barber.

Well, one play can make a difference. Happens all the time.

I agree ...

Yep... I said in an earlier post how a lot went right in 21'. It's football. Things have to fall your way to win it all.

This year a lot went wrong and they almost overcame all of those plays, but in the end they couldn't. Blocked FG, fumble at the one yd line, punt return TD, muffed punt. Was not meant to be.

Of course the difference is Williams just had to hang on to a football at the 1 yard line.

THIS PLAY ... from early-October ... In YOUR OWN Words (post #35) ...
'that one fumble ... likely cost them the division and the 1 seed this year and maybe the SB.'

In my opinion, THAT comment is Ridiculous.

It's even ...

Not to beleaguer the point, but if memory serves the Rams were in the #1 spot in November, lost and regained the #1 spot, had the #1 seed locked up until the Seattle disaster.
So going back to October? That doesnt seem like ridonculous, that just seems like Trolling

Then I guess it wouldn't be am issue if we did have a RB who was a fumbler because the fumbles would not matter since there would be thousands of other plays, that in their aggregate, would decide the season. So ignore a few fumbles since they have no impact. Right?

If Beux Limmer doesn't miss a block last year in the playoffs the Rams likley beat Philly. IF..... That doesn't mean he made the only play that was determinant in that game, but if he makes that block the Rams likley go up 29-28 with less than a minute left. IF

If Williams doesn't fumble the ball, the Rams likley sweep the Niners and win the division. That Atlanta game becomes important and they handle their business.

So yes, there are many plays in a season, but there are plays that become turning points and that was a huge turning point this year. We all kind of knew it could bite them in the ass at the time, and it did.
That's a lot of "likely's" in that post. I see it this way. After every "likely" you have to include an "if".

And you're connecting way too many dots IMHO.

"If Williams doesn't fumble the ball, the Rams LIKELY sweep the Niners and win the division. That Atlanta game becomes important and they handle their business"

To my view, you're suggesting they didn't "handle their business" vs Atlanta because that game wasn't important? That game kept them LIKELY within striking distance of Seattle IF the Seahawks lost another.

And furthermore, why didn't they "handle their business" in the 2nd Seattle game? That was important without any connection to any other game of the season.

And connecting a dot from week 5 with a dot from week 17 is a S-------T---------R---------E--------T---------C--------H of significant proportion.

But back to the real point. Williams fumble in week 5 vs SF was one of MANY things that prevented the Rams from winning the division.

The blocked FGs (plural) vs Philly
The William's fumble vs SF
The missed FG vs SF
The going for it on 4th down in OT vs SF
The Stafford pick 6 vs Carolina
The 2nd interception vs Carolina
The Stafford fumble vs Carolina
The PR vs Seattle
The crazy 2 point conversion vs Seattle
The 2nd 2 point conversion vs Seattle
The turnover on downs vs Atlanta
The pick 6 vs Atlanta
The pick in the Atlanta red zone in the 3rd quarter

That's 13 plays in 17 games and I know I missed others.

I find it funny that those who say one play doesn't matter also want to dump Xavier Smith because of one play.

Just wanted to say how happy I was that Kyren didn't fumble after the 1st SF Game, where he fumbled on the 1 yard line. He seemed to do a much better job of covering up in traffic, and didn't fumble over his last 221+ carries.
Hmmm..... My thinking is his job description is to hold onto the ball.... So it's hard for me to get excited or over congratulatory for a RB we pay $33 million not to fumble.

Never believed in patting someone on the back for not doing bad..... In all my years of playing football I have never heard a coach tell any of us "thank you" for not fumbling.

They knew the division was gone when they played Atlanta. The players are not stupid.

Yes, a lot of shit that didn't go right, but the SF fumble eliminates all of those as being important.

Win that game, the 2nd Seattle game doesn't matter as long as they beat Atlanta. It's my contention that they came out flat in Atlanta because of that devastating loss, that they knew cost them the division and a top seed.
