Not only that, but if it wasn’t flagged, will other players repeat this type of tackle? If star players are injured is that good for the NFL and fans?

I provided the rule book in my post. Is there any particular rule that I cited, which is unclear?

Dirty Joseph hit a defenseless receiver. Higbee was focused on the ball, his back was turned, and he could not defend himself from a hit.

Dirty Joseph led with the helmet into Higbee’s knee. It’s an ugly hit, Higbee was injured, and officials at every level should be prioritizing player safety and removing these dirty tackles out of the game.

How...please explain how that's naive. Especially about a league that is notorious for fining players where no flag is thrown and plays that look routine. Keep in mind we're talking about a league that seems like they're looking for a reason to fine a defensive player.

It's pretty simple. Anything below the neck is pretty much fair game if you don't launch yourself. Hence why you see more Dbs going low now more than ever. These guys aren't trying to get fined and penalized for simply playing defense.

It's a fast game and the point of contact during a tackle can change to an unintended hit in a hurry.
The rules do tend to protect offensive players more than not, but the league decided to protect quarterbacks and their legs several years ago, with Brady's injury.
I largely agree with that rule mostly because I want to see all of the best QB's play ALL season long. I'm not interested in seeing the best players out for the year because of a tackle that doesn't need to be made in a way that puts a key guy, or any guy out for the year.
I'm open to the idea that going straight for the knees like Joseph did to Higbee should be treated as it is with hitting a QB.
A defender can make the play hitting him around the waist area or above and reduce the chances of putting a player out for the year.
I've watched Butkus, Nitchke, Tatum and Deacon Jones and guys like that all play. They got away with a lot of shit that's long been banned by the NFL.
It's worth looking at, anyways. Higs is now noticeably slower since that hit.

Not to me. The gm has been nurtured enough as far as playing defense goes. We gonna get rid of chop blocks as well? Football is a contact sport at the end of the day and these players know exactly what they signed up for. It's already hard enough to play defense in the nfl and you really think it's reasonable to make it harder to play defense making another completely one sided rule that favors the offense using player safety as the excuse? What about the defense safety? Funny how nobody ever speaks on that. Having to completely change your tackle angle in fear of drawing a flag or fine can cause acl/Achilles injuries as well on the shittu turf they're forced to play on. I'm only speaking for me but I'm tired of these soft af rules that favor the offense. If the recievers don't want to get hit tell the qbs to throw low so they can protect themselves while still making the catch. Simple.

You're definition of dirty and mine are obviously different. If I don't see a flag or a fine then I can't logically say the play is dirty. I can't call someone a shitty driver if they have a completely clean driving record for 5+ years.

Matthew Stafford is arguably one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league. He doesn't sell the calls that other quarterbacks will flop for (coughJoshAllencough) on a daily basis. He's a badass on the football field who won a game with a dislocated shoulder. He's absorbed a lot of punishment in his time in the league. He's respected all throughout the league as one of its toughest competitors, the quarterback that young quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud, Drake Maye, Patrick Mahomes, and Caleb Williams all have idolized at some point.

If someone like that calls another player, and I quote him verbatim, "dirty as fuck", I'm very inclined to take his side.

Kerby Joseph and the rest of the Ankle-Biters are fucking dirty as shit. This is not the lovable loser team we saw with Stafford and Megatron; Captain Caveman coaches a bunch of dirty little kittenshits in his image.

I hope we pick up the win and get out of it without any major injuries because I expect those fuckers to play dirty.

Just did. I expected this type of response, and understand some of it.
I wonder if Giles has seen the video of Bradshaw twitching, laying on the turf after being pile driven head first into the ground by a tackle. That and Deacon's famous head slap are gone now too.

If that's the way you feel.

I don't like seeing any player getting a bad injury.... even a 9er player.

I know this is cliche but injuries are a part of football at all levels.

Nothing but respect for our qb but we have 17 years of tape of him throwing hospital balls. Instead of blindly listening to what he says as the gospel you should be wondering why he even threw that pass because kerby was a prime position to do some damage and if it's "on tape" like he said then why did he put higbee in that position? Just saying. It's a very fair and valid question. He could've easily thrown in low and got the same result while protecting his guy. Now as the lions being dirty. We'll agree to disagree. They play very physical, that's not dirty imo. It's football.

Yea I'm way to young for that. I will say I like seeing big hits and fell in love with football because of its physicality. So take that however you want.

Brian Branch literally got suspended for a helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless receiver, which he's done on a consistent basis ever since he got into the league.

Ask why Kerby Joseph feels the need to target knees; it's not just Higbee's knee he's targeted, but Hockenson's with the Vikings, hence why Stafford says, "I've seen it on tape."

The onus is on the hitter. It's always been on the hitter, even if the quarterback throws a hospital pass (hence why it's upsetting to replay Blake Countess' hit on Marquise Goodwin when the Rams played the Whiners, and in all honesty, Countess should've gotten a lengthy suspension as well as the huge fine). Joseph has no excuses for his dirtiness. Branch has no excuses for being dirty. The whole fucking Lions defense? No excuses.

Don't give them a built-in excuse; they don't deserve it.
