But we did what a dominant team would do in such a situation. Scored more than 30 points and shut out the opponent. That's hard to do, even against bad teams.

Agreed.
Especially as we did the same in London last year.

Let’s assume the Los Angeles Rams needed a little bit of time in the regular-season opener to settle in. Most of their starters didn’t play at all in the preseason. Let’s say it took a half of action to get into the flow.

Well, since halftime of Week 1, the Rams have outscored their opponents 57-0.

The Rams’ opposition hasn’t been great, but on both sides of the ball they look like the best team in football. And they take the No. 1 spot in the Power Rankings this week.

The Rams attacked the offseason like a team that had a one-year window to win a championship. That’s not the worst approach in the temporary world of the NFL. Remember, two years ago it looked like the Oakland Raiders were building a long-term contender. You can’t wait for the slow boil, because the NFL changes so fast. The Rams’ plan was just fine, and it seems to be working.

The Rams defense, which added cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib and also tackle Ndamukong Suh, hasn’t given up a touchdown in seven quarters and no points at all in six quarters. The offense, with new playmaker Brandin Cooks, is tied for fourth in the NFL at 6.3 yards per play, and it still doesn’t seem like we’ve seen their best. The Raiders and Cardinals, the Rams’ first two opponents, are bad. But it’s tough to dominate any team in the NFL. Aside from the first half at Oakland, the Rams have dominated in every way possible so far this season.

We’ll see in upcoming weeks if the Rams really are the best team in football. They have back-to-back games against the Chargers and Vikings, then set off on a three-game road trip. The competition will get a lot tougher. But at this point, there’s no reason to believe the Rams can’t handle it. They look like a powerhouse. Maybe all teams should sit their starters through the preseason.

It's true that we have beaten a weak team and a below-average team (although the Raiders may be better than that if their old team can last 4 quarters, which may be easier when not playing the Rams or at altitude), but I think we are ranked first because of the emphatic way we won the games. The Yahoo guy makes the point about first-half rust in Week 1, but you could easily add in Monday-night season-opener with a new coach as making it a tougher game than it might have been. If we can't beat the Chargers and Vikings, we will have to think again, but right now I feel like the top ranking is fair.

It’s interesting to see both of our opponents ranked #31 and #32. (In some polls). The quick and easy theory can be that “the Rams haven’t played anybody yet,” one our enemies and the lazy media are quick to embrace. And true to some degree.

But maybe there is another view. Only two weeks into the season, maybe the Rams are so dominant, that they have already wrecked the season for two teams that otherwise had some hope for a successful season. (Right, Kay Adams?)

2018 Week 3 ELO Ranking: 3

It seems like they’ve been toying with teams through the first few weeks, but there’s something special about this Rams team. Brandin Cooks has been for LA what he was for New England last year – a deep threat taking the top off of the defense with 57 yards on deep passes and 246 total receiving yards through two weeks.

I believe I read somewhere that the last time the Rams started the season 2-0 was 2001.

Seriously.... What in the F is the point of NFL "Power Rankings " anyway??? It's not like this is college BB where your RPI can affect your seeding in the tournament or something.. .

Not concerned at all with this as any type of obstacle.
@Seahawks
@Broncos
@49'ers
We're 10-1 on the road since McVay got hired. Only loss was @ Minnesota.

I'm far more concerned with these next two games.

This thread. Truly lol.
Just 2 years ago it would have been, “I can’t believe we are ranked #21, we should be at least #18”
Haha

Who cares about the rankings anyway? All opponents are obstacles to be circumvented in our journey to hoist the Lombardi trophy. Nothing personal, but kicking opponents' butts is just the way we conduct business. Get use to it!
