Yeah i get that, but unless we're in a PM it's all there for anyone and everyone to read if they choose to log into this site and do so. Posting here isn't really like being in a room or a bar or a restaurant...unless the owner of ROD decides to censor people like a bar owner could.

I guess my point is if this board (in the near future)wants to be cleaner, do it because it just wants to be cleaner and present a different image, not to shield anyone from reading curse words.

I understand the OP and thankfully it's quite a simple message. Cuss all you want, just don't be cute with your typing so the filter can do it's job. Got it. I guess my little problem(Lol) is when someone complains about certain posters dropping too many F bombs consistently in here because it bothers them or any children/young adults who visit.
Two things:

1) This is the internet. You aren't hiding anything from anyone...including your children or your neighbors children. I have 2 daughters(12 & 15). I don't curse around them either...OK an occasional "crap" :) They watch youtube, they watch movies, they go to school. It's a differnt time as you well know.
2) That's not a violation in here. Those are the ground rules set forth. If you don't like it, put them on ignore just like you would someone else who brings a whole lotta bullcrap to the table, or too much negativity...for instance.

I probably sound like i'm upset about this. I'm not. I'm just passionate over censorship and up tight Americans on the internet. :D
Understood.

Now go fuck yourself.

Honestly, how hard is it not to use the F-word every other sentence when we post? Surely we can do better than that.

True that.
Going forward, the F-Word, "Forty-Niner" should not be allowed in any way, shape or form

I think where much of the confusion comes in is with the word censorship. On a privately owned board there is no such thing as censorship. The rules are whatever the owner/moderators want/ choose. There is no right to post. So no censorship. Thankfully common sense rules here. JMHO.

It's easy for you, not so much for others. Does it really bother you(and others)? Or is this about the image of the site? Both?

I like you Mojo. In fact I agree with most everything that you post. But on this one thing we apparently don't agree and that's fine.

It bothers me to the extent that I'd like to see ROD be the official forum of the St. Louis Rams, heck I'd like to see us have more access to the team, and for more players and writers to come here. That's not going to happen unless we're at least somewhat professional in how we conduct ourselves. So yes, it's mostly about image.

But then again I'm not one of the owners here, just a mod doing volunteer work. Ultimately it's not my call but I do get to make suggestions which sometimes are agreed with and sometimes not. If profanity bothered me that much I wouldn't be here every day would I?

I agree. If we have an unfiltered board and a lot of unprofessional posts with swearing up and down, the team, writers and possibly players won't take this board serious if all that is going on. You have to have a semblance of order.

Which is where you moderators come in. Its a tough job to be fair and you have to play referee sometimes. Can't take sides but if someone you personally know is out of line, you gotta deal with it. Then that person takes it personal. I wouldn't want the job. I'm sure most would agree with me that we appreciate the job you guys do.

This is a good board, but there has to be rules. Without them it would turn into some boards I have seen that have totally gone off the deep end. Yeah Post Dispatch, I'm looking at you.

Another thing about profanity. I guess its more a generational thing. I only use it to repeat something said or to illustrate something that doesn't have the same effect without it. I can say I have never used the eff word in front of my kids or at home period. I've used it at work. But I use it so sparingly that if someone hears me at work they look up and say "whoa".

Today's generation seems to use it a lot in their every day walk of life. I'm personally not bothered by it, but its not for me.

so I played golf last week with my buddy and his 2 kids, girl and boy, who are both in the Coast Guard. When he told me Melissa was joining us instead of his other son, I sent him a text message

" shit, never played golf with a woman before, guess I have to watch my language"

his reply was simple" did you forget she is a sailor now"

point taken

BTW, i didn't even know my language filter was on (i guess it's on by default). If everyone is aware of that, probably wouldn't be anyone trying to circumvent it...

I think it is less about censorship and more about just being mindful of how you come across on a board that is really trying to be a place where everyone enjoys themselves and also attracts people from the Rams organization itself as well as former Rams and other guests. It's just not a mens locker room. And no, I don't like watching gladiators.

Honestly, how hard is it not to use the F-word every other sentence when we post? Surely we can do better than that.
This is kind of what I'm thinking too. Hell - I use them quite often but I also don't berate people with them.

It's easy for you, not so much for others. Does it really bother you(and others)? Or is this about the image of the site? Both?
Personally I think it is a bit of both. For the most part the words don't bother me when used in moderation. And I really don't buy that it is so difficult for someone to NOT leave curse words out as they type. Are you saying that they don't know how?

It bothers me to the extent that I'd like to see ROD be the official forum of the St. Louis Rams, heck I'd like to see us have more access to the team, and for more players and writers to come here. This is a very good point that I agree with and is probably the most important points to this whole subject.

The thing I also look at is why are the words being used. If everyone is just joking around and you throw in a few four letter words for flavor, meh... big deal. But if you are instead using them because you are trying to emphasize how pissed you are or how dumb you think something or someone is or essentially using them to shout and make everyone know how fucking serious you are then to me, it's just being rude and frankly immature.

Maybe I'm the exception here and I don't really mind all that much if that is the case. I really don't have a problem with taking it on myself to tell someone I feel is being rude to knock it off. So if the other mods and owners think I'm wrong here, no biggie. But I will still hold to my beliefs here and go after someone I feel is simply being rude and disrespectful to the tone of the forum.

It's not censorship and I think that is actually something too many people bring up as a red herring on the internet. It's called being considerate and civil. Something I think most appreciate about this board.

So it is about the boards image...ok. I really don't give a fuck about that as long as the good people are here and we keep the trash out. I've said what i wanted to say, so i'll bow out of this thread with this 30 seconds of pure gold.

One last point, speaking about the image of this board...the OFF TOPIC forum could be easily renamed as the NSFW forum. Any problems there while we're at it?

Yeah, I get your point but 2 or 3 threads out of over 2,100 is quite a reach.

There are others (boards) as well... some have rules but don't enforce them... or enforce them inconsistently... or don't even moderate much at all.

The booty and boobies threads are plain in their title.
Anyone with sensitive eyes need not open.
If someone's child stumbles onto them, well their parents are lucky because they are pretty tame compared to what they may find elsewhere.

Not only that but there is actually nothing you wouldn't find in an issue of Sports Illustrated.

I know that I use bad language more than I should. It happens more so in my real life compared to what I do here. I don't apologize for it. I do understand that there are times and places that are never acceptable for the use of foul language. All of you know this too.

We're not saying that colorful words aren't allowed here at all. Just don't be a blithering idiot when using them.

The filter is there for those who don't want to read them. Take advantage of that feature if you need it.

I know that there have been a few posts in recent weeks that have prompted this thread. It wasn't because of a fuck, shit, or ass thrown around. It was because of over the top every other word being fuck, shit, ass, and all the others in each and every sentence of a post.

So please, can we please just cuss with dignity and intelligence going forward.

Thank you.
