To all -

The administration staff and I have been wrestling with this topic for weeks...

Profanity.

We do not want to censor anyone, but we also want to remind members that our audience (including guests) consists of minors, members of the Rams, media, and members of every other Rams forum out there.

Let's keep it clean.

Please do not circumvent the profanity filter with special characters or other means. This is listed in our terms and rules (bottom right of our site). Filters are in place for a reason, and those using the filters are using them for a reason.

To toggle the profanity filter on/off, click on your user (upper right hand corner) and select "preferences".

In closing, we believe our members and guests are here for a different experience. Let's keep the shine on the place.

Thank you,

CGI

Edit: I am not completely innocent here either. I like making exclamation points with words too. So I am advising myself too.

A little confused. So are you emphasizing that members should just be sure to type shit rather than $h!t
???
Or are we moving towards a board that doesn't encourage and/or ultimately will ban swearing
???

I'm a little confused myself. I don't mind not swearing. But like you said, isn't that what the sensor is for? So people who don't like don't have to see it?

He doesn't want you to circumvent the profanity filter. It will automatically do it's job, unless you use a special character to fool it. Curse away as long as you spell it right.

@CGI_Ram , I notice that the word f*cked isn't covered by the filter. Is that an oopsie on the filter's part?

It would be useful if we get a listing of all of the curse words and their expected spellings so that we can be sure to comply. Also, we'd be happy to advise of good ones you may have missed!!!

This is so George Carlin.

I know this thread is meant to be serious, but I'm finding it pretty funny.

Correct. I can only guess that it's just a habit to *sneak* curse words into posts over here because of the STRICT profanity rules on other public forums. The guys here aren't trying to get you to stop swearing. They're just asking that (as you said) you let the filter do its job so we can have some semblance of continuity.

Good, because that wasn't gonna fly with me and a large portion of the board members. I always found it funny when a message board goes to great lengths to protect children and younger "audiences" from profanity in these modern times, where an 8 year old can easily pull up some free porn or senseless violence on Daddy's computer or cell phone.

this is bullcrap
No one wants to stop people from using curse words. And I'll let circumventing the filters to speak for itself as I'm sure everyone knows what that means.

But what I don't think is being said here is that many of us are a little tired of seeing posts that might as well be in ALL CAPS because the poster chose to use fuck to emphasize every point. The common rule has always been to act like you are talking across the bar with your fellow members. Frankly, I'm kicking someone out of my bar if they are rattling on with fuck this or fuck that. It's unnecessary and simply turns a great many people off. Putting an occasional curse word in for emphasis or humor is not what this is about. But if you are responding to something someone wrote with "fuck this and fuck that" It's just rude and crass. I don't care if there are kiddies around. Does anyone like to sit there and hear that while they are enjoying a beer or BSing with a friend at their favorite hang out?

I just don't think this is as much about the occasional curse word but how it is being used. Am I wrong here?
