Cautiously optimistic. Let's be realistic about this, I don't care who you are and how much film you've watched nobody truly knows whether Wentz or Goff will be a bust. If people could be 100% certain about that there'd never be draft busts at number 1. None of us know and neither do I. Personally, if asked my opinion before today I would have said it's not worth it to move that many picks for these QBs. But I easily could be wrong. If Wentz or Goff turn out to be even above average this team will be much better off then it was yesterday. However, if it's a bust it'll be a monstrous disaster.

At this point, after seeing how many years of complete and utter futility and having to watch the names at QB that we have for the last ten years I'm all on board for a little hope. A little optimism.... it beats the knowing that your team is 100% screwed in the beginning. Now I'm cautiously optimistic and for the time being at least 50/50 on being screwed or not. And 50/50 is a win for Jeff Fisher.

This is either going to be a big turning point or a big bust, no in between. The solace is that we should be able to get a 2nd rounder back out of a Foles trade. Dallas is desperate for a backup. Another possibilty is trading this #1 pick down to San Fran for a few picks back and then we take Goff, assuming SF would take Wentz.

It's going to hard for Ram fans to want to come into any Ram forum & have a nice good discussion when you fully understand that your team Org's decisions (The 2016 draft trade) has lead the team to the cold gloomy frozen Gulag for a long term sentence. You will prefer just not to talk about something very depressing & go clean out your nasty decomposed leave filled gutters.

Besides the 1st next year, history hasn't been good for this teams picks in the 2nd and 3rd round. Now we don't have to worry about them as much lol. I'm ecstatic. We needed a QB, end of story.

Here is a list of QB's that were the #1 pick going back to 1983. Notice that a few were great, a few were terrible, and most were/are average. Also notice the emphasis on drafting a franchise QB has increased over the years.

1983 - John Elway
1987 - Vinny Testaverde
1989 - Troy Aikman
1990 - Jeff George
1993 - Drew Bledsoe
1998 - Peyton Manning
1999 - Tim Couch
2001 - Michael Vick
2002 - David Carr
2003 - Carson Palmer
2004 - Eli Manning
2005 - Alex Smith
2007 - JaMarcus Russell
2009 - Matthew Stafford
2010 - Sam Bradford
2011 - Cam Newton
2012 - Andrew Luck
2015 - Jameis Winston

In all fairness, this thread did ask for input on how everyone felt about the trade.
Agreed but a little over the top don't you think? I can see not liking the move but I find it funny the hyperbole that we have just made a blunder of historic proportions. You hate the deal but I didn't see you going bat shit crazy. But then again that is just the level headed guy you are. :D

I voted cautiously optimistic.

But if you would have asked me before the trade and knowing how much we would have given up, I have to be honest I would have said no, don't do it.

There are about 9 of those guys (50%) that I feel the draft picks we gave up are worth it...in hindsight of course;)

With so many high profile players coming up for contracts they will have to sign them all because they won't have the draft picks to re-fill.
But they will be paying their QB a rookie contract for 5 years so... Balance that against what they would have to do to EVER get a franchise QB in here and those current high profile players just became much easier to keep. We aren't picking in the top 5 for the foreseeable future. At some point this kind of trade had to go down and frankly, it cost us less than I thought and frankly less to go from 15 to 1 than we got in going from 2 to 6.

I voted cautiously optimistic. Why? Because years and years of being a Rams fan has made it impossible for me to go beyond that level. :deadhorse:
I feel yuh there. Difficult for me to get too excited or too down over the move. It's not like I'm going anywhere (team-wise) anyway.

I feel like all my dogs were poisoned and skinned.

In a year or so this forum will be empty & abandoned.

Over this trade? Yeah - I think not. I have watched my Rams make great moves and completely idiotic moves - yet here I am. This move is but a blip on the screen. I will be totally jacked if we score on it but if not, I will look at what we have left on our team.

The Rams could go 1-15 after this and I'll still be here talking about them. Will I hate it? Of course. But I will still be watching the horns every Sunday during the season.

Voted cautiously optimistic.

My concern is the draft capital given up ... that's a lot of picks. But that concern is tempered by the intense man crush I have had on Carson Wentz for a while (I think he's going to be the guy when all is said and done). If Wentz develops into even a merely decent QB and stabilizes the position, that will help this team immensely, especially with the revolving door of backups we've had here ever since Sam's knee f---ed us.

And if it's Goff? I'll be a little disappointed since I'm a Wentz guy, but not too much. He's not going to be a scrub.

Yes, it's a crap shoot, but it always is with the draft. We could have stood pat, and drafted a bunch of guys who didn't pan out or who, collectively, won't have the impact as a guy who could stabilize the most important position. So, after having extra draft capital for a number of years and having lost the ACL lottery with Sam's knee, if there was ever a time to make a move, this was it.

only ones on that are truly average would be CARR but his online got him killed

ONLY 2 guys in that list are busts - Couch and Russell

put me in ECSTATIC column

Good points! Let's look at 3 more QB's that were the #1 pick in earlier years.

1970 - Terry Bradshaw
1971 - Jim Plunkett
1975 - Steve Bartkowski
