Whatever extension Stan feels he should get - if or when he gets extended. Stan knows that he can either shift Fisher's responsibilities or fire him and pay out the contract if things don't improve.
Frankly, I am not as enamored with most of the names floating around as some. I'm not a big college to HC in the Pros guy. I think you can win more big games with a defensive mindset unless you get really lucky and have some huge pieces fall into place at the right time - ala GSOT. I also think that though we have been mired in mediocrity under Fisher thus far, we have seen far worse over the years and we could very well again under someone new.
All that being said, I have to wonder if Fisher's "usefulness" as HC has passed. I like Fisher as a coach but am less than impressed with the results in wins and losses. I - like most everyone on here - want a team that can and does go deep into the playoffs and have a chance to win it all. Can Fisher do that? It's a fair question. Will Goff be the difference to take an offense - that we are starting to see pretty good improvement from - to the next level? Maybe so and maybe Fisher has finally found his OC AND that elusive franchise QB.
I just am not one to think everything is solved by firing the HC. I don't subscribe to the torch and pitchfork mentality. Time will tell but I have to guess that Stan is going to give Fish a conditional extension. We will likely see Fisher at HC at minimum through next season unless the wheels truly fall off the train.
Does that mean Stan waits until '19 to bring in a new HC? Dunno. My guess is that he would only do that if he can find a real marquee name that would automatically put butts in seats in the new stadium.
So I'll just keep watching my Fisher led Rams and go into each game thinking we are going to win. If we miss the playoffs, I will likely be hoping for a new leadership but won't be surprised or up in arms if we don't make that change. I've been a Rams fan for too many years and seen all the ups and downs to let this period in time turn me upside down at every loss or missed playoff.
