Profile
Despite a difficult upbringing, Garrett overcame early adversity to find success on the football field. As a sophomore at Wisconsin Lutheran High School, the Milwaukee native was part of a team that went 15-0 and won a Wisconsin State Championship. He played three seasons for the Vikings, rising to prominence as a team captain during his senior season in 2016.

He earned first-team All-Little Ten Conference honors following a season where he racked up 100 tackles and 9 sacks. Despite the production, Garrett was unranked by the major recruiting sites. With no Division I offers and Division III programs not offering scholarships, he forged the five-hour journey to the Concordia-St Division II program.

Positives: Explosive small school pass rusher who projects to outside linebacker in the NFL. Plays with excellent pad level, gets leverage on opponents, and fires off the snap. Uses his hands well and displays a variety of moves. Immediately alters his angle of attack and redirects to the action.

Bends off the edge, gets up the field quickly, and has a burst of closing speed bearing down on the play. Agile, plays with balance as well as body control, and consistently exploits lesser offensive tackles. Smart, tough, and relentless. Goes after opponents and attacks quarterbacks. Plays to his 40 time.

Negatives: Takes the majority of his snaps out of a three-point stance. Used almost solely up the field. Must get bigger and stronger. Will struggle against the run at the next level.

Analysis: Garrett was a terrific pass rusher at the small-school level, and he’s a relentless defender who consistently plays all-out. He’s built more like a weakside linebacker than a pass rusher for the NFL, and he must complete his game and learn to make plays in reverse.

Wow! The level of play is really weak that he goes against, but he looks fast and relentless! Could be a surprise!
Agree. Love the explosive nature in his play. If we are planning on using him as a Weakside Backer he will have to learn coverage,
But he has a sideline to sideline speed we have been missing and if you blitz him off the edge, he will be hard to handle.

I disagree of him being an OLB.He doesn’t seem to have true speed.I’m not sure his 40 time. What I see is he has such a feel for getting by the offensive lineman with amazing quickness. Once he makes his move his closing speed is not there, only in quick burst.Shows good energy.

This is the guy we hope has the Morgan fox motor and forces his way on the field after a year or two.

Yeah, I'll be curious to see what they try and do with this guy. He's way too small to be a traditional DE in a 3-4 for sure. Can be a olb on the line for pass rush packages but he has no experience as an OLB so going to take some serious coaching if he wants to stick as one in the NFL. He's got great first couple of steps and awareness on how to take angles and leverage to get around dudes but it'll take more than that to get by NFL tackles. Especially the way the NFL allows holding by olines these days. Has some good acceleration at times and ok speed but nothing amazing.

Special teams and being a sponge learning to play OLB in the NFL will keep him around but it'll take time and a lot of work on his part. Probably a practice squad guy for at least a year.

Here he is in the 2021 Hula Bowl, he's in RED #35. They play him at both ends. Good strength for his frame, tenacious, will need to work on the big OTs using gravity against him when he rips the shoulder (gets smothered to the ground in the game quite a few times) but he gets the edge a lot and he's got a lot of threat to him. Caveat of course is that this is lower competition level but I really like his game. Worth a shot late that's for sure.
