Hey fellow Rams bros.

The Phoenix Open is here for the week.

I've never gone to a golf tournament.

Anyone gone before? Are they fun? What's it like? What type of ticket should I get?

That the Waste Management tourney?..I've heard the 16th green (Par 3 ) is party central...I think it's a lot rowdier than any other tourneys except for maybe Ryder Cups...

I've only worked at the Skins game before. The televised events are pretty boring and does the athletes and caddy discussions you hear off camera no justice. Watching it live is more entertaining.

The courses can be very crowded. Some folks prefer to either stake out one hole while others follow a favorite player.

I've been to a couple tourneys. Been there done that. I got free tickets to both and that's probably the only thing that MIGHT get me to another one.

Thanks!

How do they work? The tickets? Do you just walk around and fight through crowds to get a view of the players?

Why didn't you like going much?

Yes. The Waste Management tourney this week. I've never been to a golf tournament before. Was thinking about taking my son before the super bowl starts Sunday.

Just a lot of walking around and aside from a few amazing shots, it was... Shhhhh.... Plink! Murmer murmer murmer.

I used to get tickets from suppliers. The top players always had a crowd and then several holes had all the fat, lazies surrounding the green or tee.

I will say watching the LPGA didn't suck too bad.

I used to go to the Westchester open in Rye Ny every year. Knew the course pretty well. So either I would follow my favorite golfer, or I would position myself on a hole (yeah that doesn’t sound right) that had a good view, and watch groups come by

OK

So, I am a hard core golfer to get that out of the way first.

I've never been to the Waste Management Phoenix event, which is unique in the party scene.

What you do get at golf tournaments -

Warm weather, so there are hot girls in shorts or sun dresses.

If you want to walk around, you can. If you want to sit in bleachers or on the grass, you can.

If you want to drink beer in the sunshine, you can.

You can take the kids or not.

If you have a favorite player, best bet is to find out his tee time beforehand and then get out to the course about an 1-1/2 before his or her tee time. Most tour players hit the range at least an hour before their tee time to warm up.

I will always try to sit in the bleachers at the range to watch Rory McIlroy or Adam Scott hit balls...does wonders for my swing to match their rhythm.

Next, they'll go to the putting green to hit some putts before heading to the first tee.

You'll want sunscreen and good walking shoes. You'll still have a lot of walking around to do.

Look at the weather forecast, just as though you're playing. There is not a lot of shelter in case of a thunderstorm.

There are plenty of food and drink tents out at the course, so you should have no worries there.

Port a potties can be overwhelming in July and August! Beware!

But no other professional sport lets you get as close to the players as at golf tournaments, so that part is cool.

I've been to a couple Arnold Palmer tournaments at Bay Hill.

You really are expected to be way too quiet for someone like me. That was kinda surprising for this sports fan. I fucked up a few different times and got scolded. LOL. So, it became a fun part for me too.

There's a heavy amount of drinking. Big fan of that. Liquor too, not just crappy beer.

I did get to see some golfers up close.... but I was used to being around Tiger in an even more personal setting when I'd run into him at The Blue Martini back in his chick chasing days. He was always in there trolling. But it is cool seeing how far those guys can hit a ball. I've never played but it was still cool.

The course is very beautiful too. Had to walk a lot so at least it was something to look at.

Used to go to the GHO back in the day.

My take.. golf tourneys are like football games.. you want to see everything that happens.. watch on tv.. . You want the game day atmosphere and party crowd .... Go to the WM Open

The Blue Martini I used to see Tiger in all the time was here in Orlando. It's not in business anymore... been gone a long time. I don't know about the one down in Naples.
