I'm not sure Brown is just as good and 40 pounds heavier...Although I don't think you can pass block better than Blythe did against Oakland.

Brown has some physical advantages.
He can run block well and get to the second level. His weakness is pass blocking.

Blythe uses leverage well and that's why Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer likes former wrestler's Brian Allen has that too....I concur Brown being bigger does create some major holes in the run game, but Blythe much better at pass blocking and a very high football acumen as well.

Compared to a couple of years ago this is a win win.
Trying to figure out who is better as opposed to who is least terrible.

Agreed. Brown will be very sought after in FA because of his upside. But it's pretty clear that Blythe is more consistent in pass pro but also holds his own pretty well in the run game. I think they'll give Brown a shot back at his spot when he returns, but he might be facing some serious competition in-season from Blythe if he plays the way he did last week on Sunday.

If Blythe plays like that he will be sought after as well.
With Allen in the mix it will be interesting to see where the team goes.
With Havenstein inked Brown loses some FA leverage. Of Saffold comes back on a team friendly deal he loses even more.
It just may come down to which signs first.

I think a lot of credit goes to the teams second most valuable Aaron- Aaron Kromer.

We dealt with the most amazing, genius, legendary, brilliant, sage coach ever to grace the sidelines- Coach Boob, for years. I think a lot of his schemes caused confusion, and paralysis. Another year of that coaching and we would be the Browns.

Just look at the improvement of Saffold over one year. He played at nearly a Pro Bowl level last year. I love seeing this group of guys opening holes for Gurley, and protecting Jared.

And I feel good about our future under the direction of Aaron Kromer. :cheers:

Coach Boo and Fisher's biggest blunder was not having a veteran presence on the OL. The OL did OK when Garrett Reynolds was there, and then went back to getting schooled when he left.

Guys like Whit and Sully who have seen all the tricks and hidden blitz packages and all the subtle inside holding defenses do, can enlighten the rookies before they find out the hard way.

I am so excited about our Oline, which is a crazy thing to say I know..lol. How could Boureau have been so inept and Kromer so superior? Snead was involved in getting talent forboth Fisher and McVay, so the main variable was Boudreau, friend of Fisher. We drafted three guys this year and all of them seem to be panning out. Blythe is developing into a real starter. How many years was our Oline like a patient on Chemo with little chance of survival?

I think he plays dinged up more than we know, at least it seems that way. He struggled with his shoulders, and seemed to get better. But yeah last year he was playing well and if you watch closely in Gurley's highlights you'll see him at the second level blocking someone. He's really excellent when he is 100%.
