The young man has been through a lot to get to that point of an undefeated season.
He tore his ACL twice at Indiana and had shoulder problems.

Hes known as a really stoic leader but at the precipice of taking a huge step last night he got emotional

I'd argue of all the top QBs Penix toughness and leadership is above most thr other guys

I like McCarthy, I question whether he can be a difference maker. Dink & Dunk no Chunk, barely ever throws deep or over 300 yds in a game that I recall

IF the Bears decide to move on from Josh Fields and draft a QB early.....and we could get Fields for a reasonable draft pick.. I'd consider that.

Penix was on fire to start the season but hasn't been as good lately. His delivery coupled with his medical history of shoulder and knee injuries have to drop his grade.

J.J McCarthy really needs to stay in school. The team appears to be carrying him in the games I've watched.
I've yet to see him layer a pass over the outstretched hands of a defender. Just line drives to open targets on his few throws.

Some QBs will stand in the pocket when pressured and take a hit to deliver a pass. Bo Nix seems like he's always backing up to me.

If Jayden Daniels puts on some weight and goes and shines in the Senior Bowl, he might give this draft 3 QBs selected in the first 3 picks.

Caleb Williams and those fumbles really bother me.

And I just can't put my finger on it, but I was more impressed with Sam Howell at North Carolina than I have been with Drake Maye.

I guess I'm being nit-picky, but I like Carson Wentz better than all of them with the possible exception of Daniels.

Wentz and the backup role is a separate conversation I think. But I agree that shoulder prob injury history is a no go on the young guns.

Not sure how free agency goes but Edge and CB must be addressed along with future QB.

IMO, McCarthy did that against Ohio State last year in Columbus. Overall though I don't disagree. Every QB comes with question marks, but McCarthy just seems to be different from the rest from the neck up and he won't hurt you.
He's a stud, no he's not going to put up gaudy numbers like a lot of QB's because Michigan' s offense is basically run it straight up the gut stop it if you can. Plus quite a few teams in the Big 10 actually play defense. Everybody over looked some other tall skinny QB from Michigan.

Evaluating the Draft Class at Quarterback is going to be a fun topic on this Forum.

Williams, Maye, Nix, Penix, Daniels and, should he come-out, McCarthy

Can you see the headline in L.A.. PENIX sucks! blows 14 pt lead all over the 2nd qtr mishaps caused by premature ref whistles that both teams suffered through. Penix did stiffen up though at the end and stuck it in. Just the tip though was all that was needed as it was a qb sneak.

IMO both Ewers and McCarthy would be foolish to declare for this draft. Both can be top 10 picks in 2025. Both suffer from inconsistencies that need to be cleaned up and neither really looks ready to start as rookies. That said if either comes out this year I think they would drop and offer an opportunity for a team that has a bridge QB1 in place.

That said McVay's temperament isn't conducive to developing raw QB talents. This is why I think the Rams will either get their targeted QB and I think there are only two (Penix an Nix) knowing they will have Stafford for one more year as a starter regardless of them drafting a QB. I think they redraft their QB2 releasing Bennett in the off season and hold on to their future #1's to try again in 2025.

If the Rams draft a QB1 prospect I would hope they hire a better QB coach than Zach Robinson who IMO struck out with Bennett. Stetson is a multi-year project player with limited upsides. If Bennett was his vision of an NFL QB, backup or otherwise he needs glasses.

After watching Phillip Rivers funky throwing motion for decades I think people make too much of it. I've seen Penix throw, sidearm, 3/4 arm and over the top with his passing motion.

Penix's full field reads are fast and more polished than Nix. I think as good as Nix is he can benefit from a redshirt year behind someone like Stafford. To be frank Stafford can be a very good media personality, but if wants to stay in football he could be an excellent QB coach and eventually OC. It's rare but I think Matt has the temperament and depth of knowledge that would make him an outstanding coach.

After watching a few games of Bo Nix he definitely could benefit with a year in development. His ability to go through his progressions isn't up to NFL standards as Penix. But once he cleans up his mechanics and reads he has a very high ceiling. He has a bit of the gunslinger mentality in him much like Stafford. Sometimes it gets him in trouble as it does with Stafford. But it's something I think McVay would like. It's why I think Nix will be the Ram's primary QB target.

It wouldn't surprise me if Daniels went before Williams. IMO Daniels is a better QB capable in playing in more than an RPO scheme. He has shown some ability to do full field reads. That said can he do it at the NFL level? I think he will but that part of his game will take a year maybe two to polish. He's not really a fit for the current McVay offense but Daniels offers some things that McVay can expand his current scheme, but what bothers me is that is exactly what he didn't do with Goff. I think Daniels would be another Goff, good but not a good fit for McVay.

Unless they are going to make a coaching change then Nix and Penix are the absolute best fits for McVay's current offense.

I thought I heard Ewers was staying in school? He should, but had a great game yesterday. I'm out on JJ, he hasn't shown enough, but its not his fault. He might be great, but, playing at Michigan, you aren't asked too. I've started to REALLY like Penix. His reads and accuracy are damn near second to none in this class. I wonder if his funky delivery and injury history bump him down to the 2nd? If so, I'd trade up to the 1st picks of 2nd and draft him smiling.

Ewers is talking about staying, but Texas will lose Manning to the transfer portal if he returns. So we’ll see if that impacts his decision.

I’m starting to think that this crazy Good QB draft class may not be as good as pundits thought it would be.
