Can we find a better option for our dime or nickel lbs?

We have Landman out there and he gets cooked in the open field.

People have attempted to burn Troy Reeder at the stake for this - but Landman, so far seems immune to this.

And he missed the sack on that long Caleb run (followed by Landman whiffing at the LOS). Not his best game.

I thought he was all right against the run (several stuffs and fill-ins at the line of scrimmage) and got significant pressure without giving up contain too much.

Not his best game, but if this is his worst game, I'll absolutely take it.

It helps to be good at something. Troy Reeder is also bad in the run game. I would like a Speights upgrade that excels in coverage but good all-around.

honestly I don't remember much complaining about reeder in the run game.

It was about him getting cooked in the open field for the most part.

I think landman is better - but not sure to what degree.

People used to be so mad at Reeder being dragged for another 5 yards when he made tackles. He never made TFLs. They're night and day.

I think the loss of Charbonnet could be huge. Need to focus on shutting down Walker. Do that and Sam will be tossing us a few balls.
Walker had been a beast lately but now he has to carry the load by himself. Punish him early and I think he will west out. JSN is a problem and will likely get his but pressure Darnold so he has to get rid of it quick vs giving time for him to go deep.

Reeder is serviceable moving forward and plugging a hole. Moving laterally, open field tackling, change in direction and coverage are all Poor.

Troy reeder 10 starts in 2021 (really only season where he started that much) he had 6 tackles for loss... landman had 8 this year. in 17 starts...

I think landman is a better run defender yes - but he might be worse in the open field than Reeder.

Would be great if they can add speed at LB, making Landman a solid 2 down player.

One was already on the roster and killing it on special teams prior to his injury.

Hopefully, Dolac is given more of an opportunity next season.

I've been saying this the last 5 weeks..... I think something is bothering him physically because he looks like he's lost a step,,, especially on coverage

pretty much since he signed his extension

It feels like Fiske has been pretty underwhelming since his injury. Hopefully, Young can play effectively through his knee issue - because to win vs. Seattle, the defensive line will need to dominate and make Darnold a liability, 2 starting pass rushers being ineffective won't cut it.

I thought the d-line was good last night. Chicago has an elite offensive line. They invested heavily in it during the off-season. Including signing former Ram Jonah Jackson, who has been great for them. The other side gets paid too. It's not an easy front to bully or get pressure on. Plus, they definitely were playing to contain Caleb much of the game, so to the untrained eye, you might think, "where's the pressure". As the night wore on, the bull rushes seemed to be getting more and more effective, pushing the pile back. Not their best outing, but a good one, especially considering the elements in the cold. We were particularly dominating on 4th down, which in large part won us the game.

We'll need to kick it up vs. Seattle. We need a dominant outing. Not just a good one.

Yes the other team gets paid too. Our DL is excellent, but they're not the fearsome foursome. They had a contain priority in that game and the tradeoff when you do that is it hurts rushers like Fiske who use lateral movement to get by pass protectors.

Btw Darnold is very athletic and can hurt you with his legs, but he's not instinctive with the run threat so I agree they'll release the hounds a bit in this one. Making him move increases the likelihood of winning that snap.

The way the defense played was great for their confidence going in to Seattle. Secondary has been under the gun so badly with Lake out. They really played like a different unit. It's remarkable the difference Lake's return has had and it gives me confidence we can survive this game, because the offense will probably be slowed again by this Seattle defense. We may need to play a field position game to win it.

I hope so but Young did not take a snap in the 4th quarter or Overtime yesterday.
Well I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Anything else is pure speculation.

Rams LB Byron Young has some knee soreness, and CB Emmanuel Forbes has a shoulder issue from Chicago. Sean McVay says the injuries aren't expected to sideline either guy in Seattle. The Rams came out of last night relatively healthy.

Not particularly concerned about BY being out, honestly. Desjuan Johnson is always making plays when he is on the field. I don't think it's as big of a dropoff as one would think.

It's his contain we're gonna miss. But hopefully it won't be tested too much with Darnold.
