the "United States" of America was born

up until then , we were know as the United Colonies

250 years ago on Sept. 9, 1776, the Continental Congress gave the United States its name.

The United States of America, as it’s called today, had only been known up to that point as the “United Colonies.” A resolution presented to the Continental Congress in June 1776 stated “these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States.”

The resolution was approved on July 2, which John Adams expected to be celebrated in America’s history, but July 4 became known as Independence Day, the date when Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence was adopted, according to History.com. The declaration also uses the text “these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES.”, the Continental Congress gave the United States its name.

For all of the shit that has happened in this world...I'm still glad I was born here - and in another life, I very well wouldn't have been born here.

My mom had moved to Canada, was dating some guy in Toronto. The guy turned out to be a real...well, yeah. So, she went back to the U.S., moved back to Missouri, married my dad, had me in 1991. But in another life, I could've been a Canadian. Who knows if I even become a Rams/Cardinals/Blues/Tigers fan, if that happened? Who knows if I even find myself and who I am, had that happened? Who knows what happens then?

So even with all that's happened with me, even with all of the things I disagree about when it comes to this country...I'm still proud to be an American.
