Over the years I've read some articles, seen some quotes and info from rams fans that gave me one impression but I never saw the up close work until hard knocks where it would seem that they did him a bit of a disservice, in my mind. I wonder where he'll go next.

Just got hired by Buffalo as their DL coach.

Bills agree in principle with Mike Waufle to coach defensive line

Waufle joins the Bills after spending the last five seasons coaching the Rams’ defensive line. He originally began coaching in the NFL in 1998 with the Oakland Raiders (1998-2003) and has spent time with the New York Giants (2004-09), Oakland Raiders (2010-11) and the Rams (2012-2016).

Waufle is a native of Hornell, NY and began his coaching career at Alfred University as a defensive line coach in 1979.

I mean I liked Wauffle but we had 31 sacks last year. I know we lost Quinn but it was still disappointing.

^^^^This^^^^ I thought the D line last year was very disappointing and under achieved greatly. Ironically it received a pass for the most part as most Rams fans dumped their ire on the ghastly offensive line, but, when you think about all the first round picks and money expended on the D line one could make the argument that they were even more disappointing.

Looking forward to seeing what Wade and the boys can do with this underachieving bunch.......

Aaron Kromer was alleged to have punched a boy in the face and threatened to kill his family in a dispute over beach chairs

Yeah, that's a good reason to stay away from hiring him. This was less than two years ago.

I wonder who will be our strength and conditioning coach?

My vote goes to Kevin Nash from The Punisher film.

Last year, the Packers blocked Alex Van Pelt from interviewing for the Jags OC position. Think they would block him 2 years in a row?

Actually IMO, McVay is looking for somebody who can be OL/OC much like Bill Callahan was somewhat in Washington that way that person can focus on the running game, however, McVay will call the offensive plays.

Teams just don't grant permission like they used to and that is why a new Head Coach needs to plan for that, also I would keep trying sometimes if teams block a guy once, they usually won't do it several more times because they know that can effect someone in many ways.

IMO, what teams need to start doing is creating opening on staffs when high profile guys become available I sure wish Jeff Fisher had done that when the Titans fired Mike Munchak and now he's with the Steelers. For example Bill Callahan will be available come 2018, McVay better be ready to pounce and I don't care if he has a quality OL Coach on staff, bring him in as Offensive Consultant very much like the Colts did with Rod Chudzinski.

I wonder if there is any way Groh could find his way on to the staff. I thought he did a fine job with the WR and with some mentoring he could be special IMO

He's interviewing for the Eagles WR coach job, so I'm not sure we really want to keep him.

To run a 3-4 you would need a lot better group of LB's than we currently have on the Team. I just don't see it working! JMHO
I really don't see McVay sitting down with the LA Rams and saying that he is going to bring in Wade Philips so that the Rams defense can be overhauled.
I really don't see WP coming into an organization, at his age, and with his previous success and wanting a job where he is going to have to overhaul the defense for the next few years.
I really have to go with what McVay and Philips are saying on this subject. There isn't going to be a huge change, or overhaul on this defense. The concerns about his 3-4 have already been put to rest, he can call it a bed and breakfast defense if he wants, it doesn't mean they are going to have breakfast in bed. It's about putting players in the best positions to win games and if those positions already have names it's staying with those terms and not changing them. Is Mark Barron a safety or LB? Who cares, he is getting 100 tackles a year. If the DE is standing up is he now a LB or is he still a defensive end? Who cares, as long as he is getting 16 sacks per year.

I bet you that at least some of the time, teams block coaching interviews because they've discussed it with their guy and he's not interested in moving.

Then there would be no need to block. The coach could just decline the interview.

Possibly and I'm sure that happens a lot too, but I don't think everyone wants to be seen as someone that turns down promotions. That could hurt their reputation and future opportunities. If I wasn't ready to move I'd rather my team block me than be perceived as having a negative attitude. I'm just speculating.

But the team develops a reputation for blocking which could make prospective coaches less apt to sign there. Works both ways.
