I honestly don't think we are dirty enough. If you know you are going to take the penalty go for the injury.
I don't think we are at the "Detroit Level" yet.

Now there's something to hang your hat on. Yippee-ky-yay.

If not being pussies is the goal, then this team gets an A+. If playing smart, physically intimidating football is the goal, then the Rams fall short way too often.

If I were an opposing coach, I'd tell my team to taunt the Rams D at every opportunity because it gets in their head every freakin' time. They may not be pussies, but they're soft in the head.
Yeah, I didn't say that was something to hang our hats on, nor did I say it was the goal. I said that's the reason why we have that view from other fans (as per the OP's question). It was slightly tongue-in-cheek, but not entirely. When opposing coaches have to tell their players to stay focused and not let the Rams into their heads, then it says something about the intimidating nature of our defense. This team doesn't give up a lot of offense points, so they're not playing "dumb." They've also been mostly hampered by the offense - which is both unfortunate and unavoidable because our starting QB went down in pre-season. Yeah, once in a while they'll make a mistake (as young players do), but in no way is this team playing dumb football. And if you're an opposing coach telling your players to taunt, then how does that make you (as a different coach) any smarter?

Wanna talk about penalties as being undisciplined or not smart, then okay. Last year's SB winner led the league in that department, and is again this year.
Difference being, they have an offense capable of making up those lost yards and opposing points.

I have no problem with the Rams being tough--of having a reputation of guys that will hit you in the mouth(if you want to call that dirty--so be it)but when that becomes more important than keeping their heads in the game and playing solid football I have a problem. To me--their heads were NOT in that game. It became more about taking shots or "blowing someone up" or fighting, than on actually playing the game.

The Giants got in THEIR heads.

Oh--the Giants did that crap as well---but they didn't forget to execute on the field.

THAT'S what bothers me.

Look--when you bring in Greg Williams a reputation is going to settle over you whether deserved or not----and you'll get more unfair penalties. That comes with it. But you had better be able to separate that stuff from the ability to keep your head in the game and play solid football.

I don't think the Rams did that yesterday--not when you give up over 500 yards of offense.

There are games--when their heads are in it--that this defense looks unbeatable.

In this sort of game they can't communicate, they take out their own players, they can't stop the opposition and they decide to win the battle of words and fists.

If the Rams were kicking their ass on the field the announcer might have still called them out (whether fair or not) for dirty play--but people would be talking about how they were kicking the Giant's ass on the field. That would have been what mattered.

I don't think it was their greatest moment and I could care less about some homer Giant's announcers and what they say or think about the Rams.

I do care about where the Ram's priorities are as a team and HOW they execute on the field.

If they put it together on the field you'll still have people calling them "dicks" but they'll be "dicks" that get respect when they walk onto the field because the bottom line is that they come to play--not "dicks" who can't compete, who become more interested in slugfests.

I want them to be the winning "dicks".

Yup.

Punch 'em in the balls and say, "No, THAT'S dirty."

Reminds me of the shit we used to do when we were young...

Ask the guy, "What's the capital of Thailand?"
Guy: "I don't know"
"BANG DNA rifle!" and punch 'em in the balls!

lol. We did something similar when we were even younger.

Walk up to kid, punch him in the chest: "Hey CHESTER!"
Continue by smacking him in the back: "Glad to see you're BACK"
Follow that up by punching him in the arm: "... "from the ARMy."
End by pushing him and tripping him: "How was your TRIP!?"

Ah, elementary school. It's not just for learning.

Reading the comments on NFL.com about the Rams fight is upsetting. There are tons of comments saying the Rams players are thugs and dirty players. It is pretty upsetting and annoying. Josh Brown kicked our players in the head with his cleats, and Tavon Austin got a cheap shot out of bounds just like Odell Beckham Jr. I don't understand why the Rams players have so much hate on them from the general public.
dude freak em. i dont care what the media or other fans say i stopped caring about them a long time ago. ill be laughing my ass off next year when this team finally dominates. i hope other teams are afraid

Watched the whole first half so far and it looks to me like Tree had a major chip on his shoulder coming into the game, and also OBJ and Parker were doing ALOT of jawing. Also Pugh had some after whistle shoves that dreamy attention, but not the refs. One of these was against Tree early on.

Haven't seen any "dirty" play yet except for the late hits

This is how I see them.

They get caught up in the moment far too often, and that leads to lapses in execution... which is what you want... not over agressive play.

Hey ramathon the 85' Chicago Bears, 2000 Ravens, 70's Pittsburgh Steelers teams, and the Fearsome Foursome would like a word with you.
Are you seriously putting the 2014 Rams in any kind of comparison to those teams?

How do you know we can't achieve that level? You don't. Everything seems so far away before it comes to pass. We have the potential.

Potential has nothing to do with it. Those defenses earned it and on the highest level. This squad has not. They don't deserve to be mentioned alongside the greatest of all time. Maybe some day they will but not yet.

I personally feel like everyone is over reacting. ....it was a bad game sure.... but the late hit was not dirty.....it was aggressive by an aggressive young player moving at hyperspeed.....the Giants took exception and the announcers were regulars on Giant games. The Giants had a late hit which was offset on the very next kick off.....it was one game. We are not dirty. We are tough. In 2013 the Seahawks were the most penalized team in the NFL and led the league in Personal fouls...and still had a bad game in regular season....getting blown out by the colts.....our best days as a franchise are very close and I feel this is all much to do with nothing. .......

Go Rams............ ;)

I don't give a frogs fat ass.

When we were the GSOT we were considered soft.

Now that we're bad asses, some want to label us as dirty. Labeled by fear.

Wow, you really took that beyond man....actually calling for injurying other players.....

You realize one of the reasons we get the "evil eye" is Williams right? You know why that is right? This team is under the microscope and will be due to our coaching choices.

If our players play much meaner or cause many more injuries...well we can enjoy investigation...the same sort that buried NO....only much worse.

Ramathon is right we need to play smarter football, not meaner football...or else we are going to watch this window of talent close quick and have nothing to show for it....

Wow is right. I missed that post.

I understand "to each his own" but I cannot get my brain around that kind of thinking.

I totally agree with your take on this issue.

... And on my local Australian Rules forum which has an NFL section...

Haven't been able to watch that much Rams this year, but are you guys always that cheap and dirty as an organisation. What a disgrace that was. Cheap high shots on a rookie 5 yards out of bounds after the play is over.

As Jameel McClain said, that cheap shit dont make you tough

Embarrassing, OBJ takes another team to the cleaners :$
