No reason to write him off yet.
And they have a couple of guys who showed initial promise and can be worked up, maybe. Like Mattison and Hughes.
Bell used to play for the Titans.
Boudreau is a new and different coach of course so we don't know yet what he can do with these guys.
I agree that Smith is out because 3 concussions is too many.
But it's not the stark wasteland some are saying.
A reminder of something I posted in another thread.
Fisher's Titans had a strong record of drafting and developing OL and they never drafted OL in round 1.
Here's that post again...it probably belongs over here.
**************************
Just a reminder that in 16 years a Fisher team has never drafted an offensive lineman in the first round.
FWIW. Cause who knows who made the picks.
Actually the Titans hit rate on offensive linemen is impressive.
Out of 20 OL drafted since 95---not a single one in round 1--they have 15 hits (75%). The hits include some very good continuing starters, including guys like Harris, Roos, Stewart, Amano, Hartwig, Olson, and Runyan. They drafted their 2 present starting OTs in 2005.
They rarely if ever sign FAs on the OL.
2009. T Troy Kropog, round 4. Depth.
2009. G Ryan Durand, bust.
2007. G/C Leroy Harris, round 4. Starter, LOG.
2007. T Michael Otto, round 7. Depth, has played.
2006. T Joe Toledo, round 4. Bust.
2005. T Michael Roos, round 2. Starter, LOT.
2005. T David Stewart, round 4. Starter, ROT.
2005. G Daniel Loper, round 5. Depth. Out of the league now.
2004. G Jacob Bell, round 5. Was a starter, left.
2004. C Eugene Amano, round 7. Starter.
2003. G Todd Williams, round 7. Bust.
2002. C Justin Hartwig, round 7. Starter for years. No longer plays.
2001. T Adam Haayer, round 6. Depth; played some; out of the league now.
2000. T Wes Shivers, round 7. Bust.
1999. G Zach Piller, round 3. Starter for years. Out of the game now.
1998. G Benji Olson, round 5. Starter for years. Gone now.
1998. C Kevin Long, round 7. Played a lot and well regarded; out of the game (injuries) in 2001.
1997. T Scott Sanderson, round 3. Depth. Played, left as FA, out of game.
1996. T. Jon Runyan, round 5. One of the best ROTs in the game for a long time.
1995. C Hicham El-Mashtoub, round 6. Bust.
BTW if anything their hit rate on DTs over the years is even more impressive.
What they couldn't seem to draft was WRs.
