NFL discussing banning the Hip-drop tackle

Assisting a runner is a penalty in HS. Curious what caused the NFL to make it legal in 2005.

Tush push is not football. Pushing a ball carrier from behind was always illegal when I grew up, they would throw a flag when it happened .
Why change the rule ?
When someone snaps their neck and ends up in a wheelchair maybe it will stop.

the tush push is actually taken from Rugby. If memory serves me correctly the eagles have an excellent rugby player on their oline which is probably the reason why they're so good at it.

I'm not sure if it will be banned or not, it doesn't really bother me, because NFL teams always catch up.

I think players are more susceptible to injury when they continue to re-define what can and cant be done, cant tackle high cant tackle low....
As much as I despise the "tush push", I'm not sure I'd make it illegal. Nothing to stop other teams from trying it. All qb's will try a QB sneak in short yardage situations, I dont see why more teams dont do it.
The last thing we need is something else for the refs to fuck up have to think about

If a defensive player cannot use the back of another player to launch off of in an attempt to block a kick or leap over the line of scrimmage - how is it fair for an offensive player to use the push from behind by 3 other players to move the ball forward on a run.
If that argument doesn’t hold water then how about abolishing it because it’s a boring ass rugby play that no one wants to see in a football game. Same reason a basketball forward bounce pass is not legal in football.
Now get the hell off my lawn you damn hoodlums all hopped up on hooch and wacky weed.

I look at the death of the NFL for more than ratings and money. All I see is owners looking to increase their market share instead of doing what's "best" for the integrity of the game. Look no further than Soccer as the unequivocal placeholder in this regard. While I can't understand how anyone could watch such a biased & corrupted sport but here we are. I'm all for the NFL expanding their horizons but to what end?

Can you imagine the NFL changing their policies based upon a bunch of Swifty's (sp) point of view? Yeah that's where we're headed.

Yeah, it’s gotten to be too much imo. The games over seas are hard on teams. All of the unnecessary travel is BS, but it’s all about expanding their brand.

This 100%.
We’ve made it difficult for refs to even call a game.
The NFL needs to stop adopting rules that can’t be called in real time.
Most people don’t even know what a catch is anymore, because you need slow motion, from different angles, just to clarify it.

The biggest problem with the Tush Push, is olinemen going at defenders ankles and knees.

The Giants had two Olinemen injured trying to do the rush push play.

For short yardage, AD99 in the backfield, Tutu takes the direct snap, one big step and AD hurls him like a cheerleader over the line.

How many Tush push plays have been played in a year and people got injured?

I bet more have been hurt on turf than the actual play. Turf is prob most of the issue, if they were hurt on those plays. A lot of injuries come during or after rain on the wet Turf. Maybe look into that instead of banning plays first.

Disagree.

This tackle is one that easily causes injury. It’s not a “hit”.. it’s the same concept as the horse collar rule.

I get the frustration.. but I cringe every time I see someone’s knee or ankle fold in a weird way on those.

Again, just remove the helmet and pads from the game and make it Rugby. That's literally what their wanting.

The horse collar and this whatever drop tackle BS are two totally different things.

So you get a runner like Derrick Henry and if he gets parallel to you how the hell are you supposed to tackle him? No horse collar, not allowed to wrap around the waste now... how? A RB is going to have 3k yards now.
