Another transaction by the Los Angeles Rams has been completed and this time while they haven't announced it, team insider Myles Simmons tweeted that the team has signed Bowling Green UDFA defensive tackle Zach Colvin.

Colvin is an interesting prospect, he stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 301 pounds. The former Bowling Green standout doesn't have incredible speed by any measure but he seems to just stand out on tape. Colvin has a bloodline between his uncle and grandfather playing in the NFL. The young defensive tackle played in 50 games in his career at Bowling Green. He improved in every season and unfortunately missed out on almost the entire 2014 season after season ending injury. Colvin still showed the ability to handle to adversity of coming back as he went on to have his best season in 2015, starting in every game and being named a team captain.

Easley can get pressure on the QB. As we know, Williams values that above all else.
Donald, Brockers, Easely....I think those are our top three at DT by a good margin. A lot of competition for the fourth spot.

What specificaly has he done that makes you think he might make the roster other than "he stands out on tape" ?

Zach Colvin, DL, Bowling Green

The 400-pound bench, 700-pound squat club is a small one. Colvin (405 and 705) can also hang clean 385

Yikes.
Following the Russian model, getting a squat to 1.6 X body weight and deadlift to 2 X body weight is where measurable improvements start to happen in an explosive sport. 2.3 X body weight squat....400 lb bench??
Dude is strong....I know, captain obvious.

I know you are joking, but to answer your tongue-in-cheek comment with a Horns factoid: 14th round draftee, Deacon Jones, fit in beautifully as part of the original Fearsome Foursome quartet.

Key with Easley...as with others...more so with him, is he healthy?
As far as I know.
But I also haven't been following anything with him since he signed.
Fairley was a nice additional last year. Good in the run game. I think Easely could prove more disruptive in the passrush.

Let's think about that for a min...Donald, Brockers, Quinn, Hayes....starters...
on passing downs we go, Quinn, Donald, Hayes, and....who do you like more? Coples on the Outside? Hell, I think Ayers at a DE is a good mix...Where exactly will Easley play on 2nd & 3rd downs? Or is he spelling Donald? Is Sims still in the rotation? How about Westbrooks? Plenty of options, but what exactly is the best fit????

You know what I think on Easley.....everywhere! Easley can play any of the four DL posts & be effective. But he is better suited to be a problem from the interior. What will be interesting to see is Easley working next to Aaron on passing downs along with Quinn. Those 3/4 of a DL is going to be something to behold. Its should be a terror for any OL to see those three. I just hope that DE Westbrooks is able to get seriously twitchy. :wow::headexplosion:

Interesting signing to me since I'm still old school and want to stop the run above all else. The DL is in great shape with plenty of elite pass rush options, but the rush defense still concerns me. To become elite the defense must be consistently stout and end the roller coaster of completely stuffing a great team one week to giving up 150 yards rushing to a bad team the next. I will be much more comfortable if and when the Rams establish a #4 run-stuffing specialist DT that can step in for Brockers if needed, maybe this kid is that, who knows? Plus I'm a sucker for small school stories...

I remember reading some stat from last year with him getting a lot of pressures per snaps played....not a lot of sacks....ala Chris Long....anyway, don't remember where I saw that.
Anyway, I could see him subbing in for both Brockers and Donald....not so much a first down or just a third down guy, trying to create a real rotation. There times last year when it was Brockers/Donald or Donald/Fairley or Fairley/Brockers....I expect to see Earley used in the same sort of way.

Is it just me?

But wouldn't it have been wonderful if S&F could have found an intriguing and promising candidate for backup C with our 90th spot?

Or maybe a serious competitor for GZ as a PK candidate?

We already have the best front 4 in the league. And quality depth behind the starters.

But Kush as backup C kinda scares me.

And GZ's on a 2 year downtrend. Missed 3 of 8 last year from 40-49 yards. Those should be bread and butter kicks for a top kicker. We lost 2 games last year due to GZ misses. Where is that promised serious competition for GZ that Fisher promised?

So Fisher (he makes the final decisions) brings in a DT that has virtually a zero chance of making this roster? Damn!

Does Fisher have a subconscious career death wish? Sigh...

Taylor Bertolet was drilling 60 yarders the other day he's a fair competition for GZ, Kush might possibly be a good center I like him not a fan of Folkerts at all.

Guess they don't see it like you do 43. Maybe finding competition for GZ is a ship that has sailed. I doubt you can find anyone who could do that at this juncture. Maybe Kush and his fruity behavior don't have anything to do with how he's going to play, I'll definitely be watching him Saturday.

I'll say this about Colvin: he's intriguing because not only is he a physical beast, but he's also well coached. Maybe he did a workout and blew their minds? The assumption that he has zero chance to make the roster is yours my friend. The Rams clearly saw something they liked.
