Former Phillies GM, Ruben Amaro, who now does local Phillies broadcasts, once said as a GM he wanted the players that he traded to do well with their new teams. It was best if both teams got what they wanted. It's not only good for the players themselves, who you obviously get to know very well, but if both teams "win" it's more likley that team does more deals with you in the future. The trade brought us a Lombardi.
The trade brought regular winning and likely the best team run the Lions have ever had.
Anybody who doesn't see this was a good trade for both teams isn't paying attention.
Anybody that still cares about winning a trade over another team and can't see that both teams did good in the trade? Maybe go touch grass more often.

I know this will offend the ones your comment didn't but some people think way too damned much about a former Ram and what others think of him.I know this will offend some of those Goff apologists out there, but to me Stafford has superior leadership, toughness, and ball handling skills. Also, don't believe the Rams would have won a Superbowl with Goff at QB and very well could win another one, if they stay healthy. Best trade of Snead's time as GM of the Rams and he has made some good ones.
The biggest reason for the short "rebuild" is the trade for stafford. Yes the trade was a win win, but there is winning and then there is winning. Can you imagine Goff getting to the playoffs the last 2 years with this team? Can goff play winning football with less than 2.5 seconds to through like Stafford. To be fare, most couldnt.Actually it was a win win for both teams. Lions may never win a Superbowl with Goff but they are now respectable. They should compete for several more years. Far better than what they were.
The Rams won a Superbowl and are in position for another this year. With the quarterback they supposedly gave up the farm for almost 5 years ago.
The difference is the organization. Detroit's has floundered for a lot of years making bad decision after bad decision. While they are relevant today there will come a time when things revert back to their old ways.
The Rams on the other hand, know how to build using a combination of good drafting and finding the right pieces via free agency and waiver wire. Who knew Forbes would be a starting caliber CB? Who knew Landman would be the piece they needed in the middle? Signing Poona Ford shored up the run defense. We lost Kupp and gained Adams.
Bottom line, Rams seem to find a way to get back in the mix. They were supposed to be rebuilding after the 2022 season that ended badly. That rebuild resulted in 10 wins and a playoff appearance the next season. A division title and another playoff appearance with a win following that. Now here we are considered one of the favorites for a championship. Shortest rebuild I've ever seen.
Exactly. The Lions essentially became the Rams circa 2017-2018 and the Rams took the next step to become a true Super Bowl caliber team. Both teams were unsatisfied with where they were and both teams got what they want, one of the historic win-win trades in NFL history.Spot on perspective on so many points, but ultimately I’d say both teams “won” the trade because both teams succeeded in their #1 goal when the trade was made.
Rams- Get better at QB and win a Super Bowl
Lions- Build a strong roster and start competing
If we’re grading the trade beyond the initial goals of the trade I mentioned above, the Rams are clearly the big winner because the Rams are simply a better run organization. Better HC and coaches, better culture and a proven foundation in place for almost a decade now.
Problem for Detroit is that now that the trade has succeeded, they’re in a similar position as the Rams before the trade. Good team with a loaded roster with a QB who isn’t good enough to take the team to the next step.
The Lions may very well beat the Rams again this year and Goff might throw 4 TD’s and Stafford may have a stinker, but that changes nothing in THIS discussion.
Detroit isn’t winning a Super Bowl with Goff, and the Rams have a shot again with Stafford.
