It seems that way, not sure about the state. Either way, it gives some ammo to Kroenke in May, but overall I don't think it stops financing from getting done.

My guess is that Peacock wants to have some ammo of his own in may to show he's moving forward with the financing. I'm hoping they move forward on this issue because it's the only major roadblock left.

I agree that $6M on a billion dollar stadium seems pretty trivial. Not going to make or break anything.

The bigger questions is, if they are hesitant about the County's vote, what will happen if they need to put the City's contribution to a vote? The articles suggests that the City must eventually vote on the funds, but that may not be correct.

This news could be an indication that the financing has progressed to the point that other contributions made the $6M superfluous, or on the other hand it could mean that the Governor is concerned that the County would have voted against the funds, and this result would have had far more propaganda impact re "lack of support" than the need for the $6M. In other words, they couldn't afford to have the County vote against the project, so they had to circumvent the County and try to get the money elsewhere. No way to tell from the article itself.

It's 6 million over 30 years, or 180 million. That's over half of total of public funding.

I agree with you that the county's portion probably was superfluous, and the reason it was dropped.

We have studied numerous financing proposals over the past month and anticipate considering additional financing concepts in the weeks ahead. In short, just as the stadium design has evolved over the past several months and will continue to progress, so too will the process to determine the appropriate financing plan to bring this project to life. We continue to build excellent momentum but what remains the same is the positive impact a new riverfront stadium will have on our economy, in the creation of jobs and ensuring that St. Louis remains an NFL city, today and always.

I think they might be looking at other funding sources Bc they might not be able to get any bonds extended Bc of Silvey and his bill, which still has to pass. They can't afford to waste time hoping the bonds get approved.

so here is my stupid question concerning funding.

Don't big companies ( i.e. Lucas Oil, Levis Citibank etc.) buy into the stadium for naming rights and can this money be used to build said stadiums? Obviously I am not up to speed on the whole process of stadium building

Yes, that's what's been going on lately with stadium funding.

then again, it would be hilarious if Stan has to ask his wife "honey, will your company sponsor my stadium"

Honestly I'm half expecting that in LA. It just doesn't roll off the tongue though.

All 3 city's are going to be in the same position. No vote no taxes(bonds). They have to find funding with private banks and develop property's around the stadium help pay for the stadium. I seriously think it could work for all 3 cities. They have the room to build. They could do what Stan is doing in Inglewood.

The article is very misleading. The task force decided that they didn't want to go through a showdown with the county so they opt'd to skip involving them in the process. That does not mean they aren't going to involve the county down the road but they don't want to count on them to achieve their goal. People that are much smarter than I am and are involved in this process are very confident that this thing gets done. I am actually shocked how confident they are. As someone recently told me "Deals are made behind close doors, not in the eye of the public".

The governor dropped the country Bc the country said this has to go to a public vote. The governor knows it won't pass so he has to find another way to make up that money. If the Silvey and Obama bill passes then it'll be the like governor dropping the entire bond extension. No one should hit the panic button but this recent news is a big one.
Not so sure on that. If they extend the bonds before the end of the year, the Obama plan doesn't affect this deal if I read it right. Also, the Silvey bill would likely have to be enacted before Nixon acts in essence by executive order to extend the bonds. Not sure if Silvey could get the extension repealed. The problem, it seems, is if appropriations will agree to fund the payoff on the extension. My guess is that they will but it is just a guess.

DBrooks I have been around. I was just driving myself crazy with all of this stuff and didn't really like the way I had been posting so I decided to step a way for a bit. But it is good to know you missed me. (y);)

A superfluous $180 million? Does that sound right to you? If the reasoning is that they don't think they have the votes in the county that houses the stadium, what does that say about the support throughout the state? Does anyone think the NFL wouldn't look at that in determining support for the project?

Maybe it makes the financing simpler for the Governor but is that funding that Stan can argue should have been put into the project rather than asking him for it? Just spit balling here but it seems like a bad move and that a better move would have been to work to gain public support within the county.

Yeah, he's is amazing. I'm telling you, people are underestimating this guy's ability to get stuff done.

I don't think anyone is underestimating Peacock and what he can accomplish my concern is the NFL led by Roger Goodell!

Kroenke can accomplish a thing or two himself.

He's presenting plans for his Inglewood stadium to NFL owners while Peacock is saying stuff like: "We continue to build excellent momentum..ensuring STL remains NFL city..always."

They're not necessarily even working at cross purposes at this point...
