One of those obscure rules in football is you can throw a forward pass on a kickoff if you catch it in the air and don’t take any steps. Wonder if these new rules could make it more possible to use this witchcraft?
I never heard of that! That does sound intriguing.

Pretty wild thought of the possibilities? Don’t you have to take a step to throw a football though ?
My question is is Tutu Atwell is taking Kick Offs ? He said he wanted to & thinks he could be really good at it. Jalen Hurt at the end of a game could be exciting to make something radical happen

Only players I've seen fielding kicks was a 20 minute segment with Kyren Williams, XXaviar Smith and Wiglasz getting about 4 or 5 each.

You can stride with the front foot but not take a step, kinda like not lifting your pivot foot in basketball.

I don't know if that's still a rule in the NFL.

We used to use it in our flag football games tho

Me either but the free kick one still is on a punt fair catch. Saw that one used not too long ago.

Well, we actually have a football game tonight. It's going to be terrible with practice squad and soon to be unemployed players mostly playing but I will be watching to see how these new kickoff rules will look.

So...giving Offenses yet another advantage with improved field position?

Geezus...NFL Defenses should fucking go on strike.

Ridiculous!

It's going to be a bit of a shit show at first I think. There's going to be several teams with great special teams that will really take advantage of this new system and everyone else is going to hate it until the rest catch up. I fear we're going to hate it at first given how our special teams have been as of late. Hopefully we put the appropriate resources into making sure it's not embarrassing at least.

I do not have high confidence in our special teams coach.

Yeah I don't either. I don't have low confidence yet because it was his first year, didn't really have good players to work with I think, our coverage units have been ass for years now, and McVay gave him a vote of confidence which goes a long way. But yeah... Blackburn has a chance to make a name for himself if he can use these new rules to our advantage or dig himself into the fan doghouse quickly if he can't. At this point, I just hope Karty is good at his job and we'll at least be ahead of where we were last season.

I agree but this year we at least have some talent in that room for him. I think his ass is on the hottest seat among the staff. But I also think McVay has made it hard on his ST coaches over the years with how he stacks his rosters. That phase has never felt like a priority to him.

Kicker became a priority because he dodged a bullet with Gay and ended up experiencing kicker hell again. Fact is you're not gonna hit on a castoff kicker every year if you set yourself up to rely on them. That isn't the ST coach. Well, we don't know what they say to him behind closed doors as to the quality of their players but still the biggest issue to my eye has been the stacking of the roster and that has spanned multiple ST coaches so the problem is Coach McVay.

Great as he is the dude is human and has areas where he learns the hard way. Has he learned with ST? Certainly he has I think at kicker. But what about the gunners and coverage units. When the final cut comes down to Xavier or Tutu for example on teams will McVay tie his ST coach's hands and give Tutu the slot. Not saying that's the final two for the WR room but just an example on how stacking that roster can affect the ST coach.

Not making excuses for him here either. If we were to start the season slow on teams I would fire his ass midseason because I didn't care for what he was doing last season so I'd expect much better units or else this year.
