The Book is NOT Closed ... This is NOT Yet Decisive ... It's NOT a Done Deal.

However, I am guessing that we ALL feel the same excitement ... that sense of HOPE for a Better Future.

Remain Calm ... Numbers change and two players can be assigned the same number for Training Camp ... BUT ... undrafted rookie Eddie Walls has been assigned #51 ... that was Troy Reeder's Number.

Can it be?!? ... Has that the Dark Cloud finally passed?!?

I know it's "get off my lawn" type complaining but I will never get used to these new numbers
WR wearing singled digits? TE not in the 80's? Ugh......

One of the worst developments in the NFL of the last 5-10 years. Another example of humans getting stupider. Otherwise known as Modern Douchery (TM)

Problem is your typical 80's numbers for TE's & WRs, too many teams have a few of those numbers retired. Plus, now teams carry 6 WRs, so its tough to get your TEs and WRs all numbers in the 80's. So that's just one example.

Tight ends also always wore numbers in the 40s, Todd Christensen famously. System wasn't broken. And the Cowboys famously retire 88 but issue it out anyway.

I mostly like it ... for me, it's a little nostalgic

DL ... Youngblood #85 (before Jack, Lamar Lundy had #85) and Dryer #89
LBs ... Hacksaw Reynolds #64 ... Jack Pardee #32 ... Marlin McKeever #86 ... Ken Geddes #36 (loved that guy)
DBs ... Richie Petitbon #17 ... Jim Nettles #19
WRs ... Harold Jackson #29 ... Lance Rentzel #13 and #19 ... Bernie Casey #25 (fine actor)

But, it's Cool Man ... Not everyone can be Hip and Groovy ... like me.

I was thinking of Christensen, at the time I thought that was odd. He wore that number because he came into the league as a FB.

There were also WRs wearing numbers in the teens back then. Harold Carmichael wore 17. Lance Alworth wore 19.

Charlie Joiner #18
Gene Washington (Niners) #18
Bob Hayes #22
Charley Taylor #42 ... started his career as a RB
Paul Warfield #42
Fred Biletnikoff #25
Don Maynard #13
Danny Abramowicz #46

I will stop now but that was fun.

Back to our discussions of the direction of our offense, 13 personnel and the draft. I just realized scanning the UDFA list:

1. There are Zero UDFA wide receivers. It seems that never happens. The Rams seem to always have 2-3 UDFA candidates.
2. There are 2 UDFA tight ends. Not only was there a high draft choice with a deep tight end room, but two more bodies to add to the mix.

Speaking in terms of snap counts I think it is safe to say, and not a hot take here, tight ends will be on the field even more than last year, and by default wideouts a bit less.

Receivers:
Nacua
Adams
Wittington
Mumpfield
Smith
Daniels

Tight ends:
Higbee
Parkinson
Ferguson
Allen
Klare

Vilari
Jones

I like how the Rams are not just throwing bodies in the room and seeing what sticks. Other than for injuries, there is not a lot of room for promotion here. I cannot wait to see the offense this year.

And there was nothing wrong with THOSE numbers. Its the disgraceful "single numbers" I have a problem with.
