Here's the bottom line. All the speed and talent to get open don't mean squat if you can't hang onto the ball.
the difference between Thomas and Spruce? You can pretty much gaurantee Spruce will hang on to the ball if he touches it, and you never know with Thomas.
Eh, that's oversimplifying. Brandon Marshall, Terrell Owens, Wes Welker, and DeMaryius Thomas routinely were/are among the league leaders in dropped passes. Yes, you have to have good enough hands to catch the majority of the balls coming your way. But if you're good enough at separating and make enough plays to offset the mistakes, teams will overlook drops.
Mike Thomas is a rookie trying to learn a new scheme. That usually results in more drops than normal. If he proves that he can get open at the NFL level and make plays, the Rams will have no issues with him being among the league leaders in drops. If a WR puts up 1200 yards and 10 TDs, the team won't complain if he drops some passes.
Sigh. I have to keep saying this over and over.
Here goes again:
Nelson Spruce has ALREADY made the final roster with his showing in the first preseason game. He can miss the next two games with injury and STILL be on the roster.
Nelson Spruce will be on our final roster. The Rams will not let him go.
I'm so serious and so sure of this that I'll have to say ... Does Anyone Disagree and Want to WAGER with me on this?
I didn't think so.
Brian,
Spruce has not made the team yet. The WR position is very competitive right now. If other guys step up and play well, they'll make the team. He can't help the team from the bench. I like Spruce a lot, but he hasn't locked a spot down yet. He needs to get back out there as soon as he can. Because Duke Williams or Marquez or Mike Thomas or Brian Quick could take that spot away from him.
