Your best bet is to contact your unemployment office to get details on their policies. Finding a job while maintaining the job you have even though you are hurt and mad is the best method. Use this time to promote yourself the interview room is the best place to increase your salary. Don't let your resentment hurt you turn it into an opportunity. Companies are always in need of good management people (leaders).
If you really want to pursue the UI method here is some info.
Laid off due to a lack of work (loss of job) is the best way to do it.
Being fired or quitting is a no go in CA.
If you are fired or quit you will have to make a certain amount of money ( in your new job) before you can apply for a claim.
If you find someone that will hire you and then you become laid off after you have met your necessary income amount you will qualify for Unemployment Insurance compensation.
