I'm not so sure about this. Garrett is a HOFer, but he's also 30 years old. My concern is how much he has left in the tank. Hate trading an ascending player like Verse. But I get it. Verse isn't Garrett. Hopefully, Myles still has four or five great years left.
I get the concern man. We all like Verse and who knows where he'll go from here. but Myles just had the single best sack season ever. He's only 30. And he did that on a pretty bad team with no offense. Imagine him on this team, with not only this DL, but the improved secondary. And most nights he'll be playing with a lead. He could easily do it again, if not even better. Hell, he might get AD to come out of retirement!! Kidding but we can dream

Perhaps they are thinking of the next two or three years with Stafford on offense and then a rebuilding period to follow
I’m just not sure the Rams buy into the whole “rebuild” thing. Stan said years ago (right before he moved the team to LA if I recall) that he wanted a team that can compete for SBs every year. I think that is his expectation. This team is the crown jewel of his sports empire.

Ho-ly-fuck.

I don't know how to feel. Garrett is an enormous upgrade, but he's older than Verse. Losing Verse stings a lot, but yeah, it's Myles Garrett.
Aaron Donald retired after 10 seasons
Myles Garrett is going into his 10th season.

I would hope that Rams DC Shula ensures that MG has plenty left in the tank & hungry going into late December.

Thats my only fear. I hope they talked to him to get his mindset.

Hopefully he plays like DeMarcus Ware or Reggie White, who were still really good and played into their late 30's. That would be the best outcome, assuming they get a ring or two over that time period.

2nd best is that they win a SB, and then if he does retire in a few years, they still got a ring.

How many years do we have left in Myles?

I think in 2 years his contract gets scarry so if he has juice you will see a restructured contract or he is traded for way less than we paid, but that's normal. Two seasons is good.....anything beyond that is freaking awesome!

I get what youre saying, its just a difference of how we are viewing each player. Myles had a great year last season. Set a record. In fact he almost doubled his average in sacks for his entire career. How does a 9 yr player do that? Well a good majority of his sacks came within his conference which delt with Burrow and Lamar playing injured and a 43 yr old qb. He also had 5 against NE who everyone was saying all season their OL was dogshit. Im in no way undermining Garrett's achievements, bc theres a reason 23 sacks is a record. But the jump he made from the previous season to last has to have an explanation due to how extreme the jump was. So I dont expect that to be the new norm for Myle's going forward. Just like I dont think Verse's sophomore season is going to predict his 3rd season. He has too little of a body of work to really work with.

I do agree with you on the comparisons of play style between the two players. And I would honestly rather have Garrett's style of play than Verse. And I will correct myself when saying that Verse "may be just as good". I didnt mean elite, but in talks of being one of the top DE's in the game in a few years.

Ill also put it out there that Garrett rubbed me the wrong way when he was talking shit about leaving Cleveland, no matter how much they offered. Well he was full of shit and took the money. So I also have a little bias. Lol
His last 5 years sacks 23, 14,14,16,16.

i'll bet money (as much as I'm a Verse fan), he never even gets to 16, let alone 14.

Again, I'm a huge Verse fan, but they just aren't in the same realm.

The money was my first thought! How is that going to work when so much talent are heading for second contracts. The only way this makes sense is for the Browns to swallow a big chunk of Myles contract!

Also, I feel gutted for Verse. The Browns! He doesn’t deserve that
I think having Garrett makes resigning some of the guys on the Dline less important.

Whether we like the Garrett trade or not, take a step back and look at what the Rams accomplished this offseason.

They extended Stafford, traded for McDuffie, signed Jaylen Watson, added a quarterback of the future in Simpson, brought in another strong draft class, and now land Garrett—arguably the best defensive player in football.

That's an explosive offseason.

The Rams didn't lose last year because they couldn't score. They lost because they couldn't consistently shut down elite offenses when it mattered most. This move is about fixing that and maximizing a championship window while Stafford is still playing at a high level.

What I appreciate most is the commitment. Some organizations make a bold move once every decade. The Rams seem willing to take calculated swings for greatness every single year. They don't sit around hoping things work out—they actively pursue championships.

As a lifelong Rams fan, that's all I can ask for. Effort. Commitment. A willingness to chase greatness. I’m very fortunate.

GO RAMS!
