Perhaps they are thinking of the next two or three years with Stafford on offense and then a rebuilding period to follow
This is the brilliance of the Simpson pick. (Obviously, if it works.) He'll be on a rookie contract once Stafford retires, so a rebuilding period won't be necessary.

We also should remember that we had 9 years in a row without a 1st round pick. Snead doesn't need them to build a great team.

Browsing around the league on this trade, and something that REALLY annoys me is…

Why is it that when the Rams make a big trade they’re “All in” but when any other good team makes that trade, they’re just “making a move?”

If the Seagulls made this trade, no one is attaching the “All In” moniker to it.

Super annoying.

Hey fuckers…The Rams have been a good team for the last 10 fucking years, minus ‘22. When they add a stud via trade or FA it’s called getting even better.

Media and other fans just need to deal with that fact.

I get what youre saying, its just a difference of how we are viewing each player. Myles had a great year last season. Set a record. In fact he almost doubled his average in sacks for his entire career. How does a 9 yr player do that? Well a good majority of his sacks came within his conference which delt with Burrow and Lamar playing injured and a 43 yr old qb. He also had 5 against NE who everyone was saying all season their OL was dogshit. Im in no way undermining Garrett's achievements, bc theres a reason 23 sacks is a record. But the jump he made from the previous season to last has to have an explanation due to how extreme the jump was. So I dont expect that to be the new norm for Myle's going forward. Just like I dont think Verse's sophomore season is going to predict his 3rd season. He has too little of a body of work to really work with.

I do agree with you on the comparisons of play style between the two players. And I would honestly rather have Garrett's style of play than Verse. And I will correct myself when saying that Verse "may be just as good". I didnt mean elite, but in talks of being one of the top DE's in the game in a few years.

Ill also put it out there that Garrett rubbed me the wrong way when he was talking shit about leaving Cleveland, no matter how much they offered. Well he was full of shit and took the money. So I also have a little bias. Lol
NFl record of 12+ sacks for 6 straight seasons. Do some research before long winded posts. 2x DPOY. Piled up sacks while playing on teams that were never ahead in the 4th quarter. Garrett will feast on this team. And I don't give 2 shits about anything he did or say about the Browns organization, it's been a clown show there for 60+ years.

Verse for me is too one dimensional... if you contain his power rush he can ba taken out the game. He is obviously still a brilliant player, so it does hurt. I loved his attitude too. Garrett is on another planet though. This could put us over the top if everyone stays healthy.
Bingo. Verse is such a great human and teammate that this gets overlooked. As much as it hurts to lose him hes not a pure pass rusher. 2 years to develop that side of his game and it didn't happen as much as we hoped obviously. McVay also had to meet with him mid season last year after a slow start.

Not only is Myles Garrett a pure elite pass rusher but he is truly generational. One of the best pure rushers to ever walk the earth. We haven't had this talent of outside rush since prime Quinn who still is levels below Garrett. Garrett is far better right now than Von Miller was when he came over.

Plus we have him under contract for a very affordable next 3 years which lines up perfectly with Staffords window. If you asked me after last year our biggest holes or area to improve heading into the draft... Mine was CB, then OLB/ pass rush. Only because last year when we really, really, REALLY needed someone to win on a 3rd down pass rush it didn't happen enough.

Do you guys think we win the Super Bowl if AD never got to Burrow? Did you see what was happening on the outside? I thank the lord we'll never know and it doesn't matter.. because when we had one snap to win it AD got home and brought us that ring.

Long is where I’m at with him.
Verse is a solid player and I really like him, but Garrett is a game changer.
That is what I wanted with the 1st pick. It just came from next year's. And who knows, maybe Simpson will be a game changer when he gets to start. Anyway, it is so fucking nice to be the envy of the league. We were always on the outside looking in until Kronke came along.

You might wanna fix that post....

Hell yes. I take back anything bad I ever said about Snead.

2025: Garrett 23 sacks vs verse 7,5

My buddy Claude just sent this to me..

Garrett is a massive improvement not only in pass rush over Verse but also in the run.

Hes the only defensive lineman in 2025 to post both a 90.0+ pass-rush grade AND an 80.0+ run-defense grade — meaning he’s genuinely dominant on both sides of the ball, which is rare for an elite pass rusher.

His 13 tackles for loss or no gain ranked in the top eight among all defenders.

For context, Jared Verse’s run-defense grade in 2025 was 62.0, ranking 63rd at the position — so that’s actually a notable weakness in Verse’s game compared to Garrett, who is a complete player. It’s one of the things that separates Garrett from other elite edge rushers — he doesn’t take plays off against the run.

Browns are quietly having one of the better offseasons building toward the future. They had a very good draft, lost Garrett but got Verse, who hasn’t peaked yet, but also getting a second first round pick in what can be “the best QB draft” in recent memory? This trade wasn’t about this year. This was about building a future. Browns may be onto something. I think this trade is a win-win. I’m just very disappointed in losing Verse. He was a favorite of mine
Lol, Browns have been building for the future for 60 years, still have never figured shit out.
