So it been few months since Benny passed. Wife's friend said there's a Frenchie at the shelter thats been there a while. No one's wanting to adopt her so far. She couldn't resist it. Went to the shelter and adopted her. We named her Maggie. She's super friendly to people. Loves it when company comes over. Here's the pack. From left to right. Maggie, Henry and Heidi.

Henry and Heidi haven't quite taken to Maggie yet. I think Heidi's finally coming around. Seems like she wants to play with her sometimes. Henry just ignores Maggie.

Henry's pretty much taken to me. He's a daddy's boy all the way. Waits outside the bathroom door for me. Follows me everywhere I go in the house. Gets anxious when I'm not home. Heidi's a momma's girl. Always wanting to sit with her. Maggie's undecided so far. Likes sitting with both of us. All she cares about is who has a treat for her. Definitely food motivated. I'm the one who walks them. So when its getting that time in the morning they all come to me.

So I was at the golf driving range yesterday. I see this little dog wandering the parking lot. This is outside of town and not much out there except an orchard and a couple farm businesses. This poor little guy was in bad shape. He's a poodle with extremely matted hair. Had all kinds of foxtails and other weeds stuck in his fur. All muddy and dirty. A deep gash would on his hind leg.

I couldn't leave him out there. He'd never survive. The orchards around there have coyotes. There's a highway next to the driving range. I spent an hour and a half trying to scissor cut the foxtails and dry weeds. He had a couple burrs stuck on the side of his mouth. I finally gave up. Realized he needs a professional. And medical care for the wound.

I took him to the vet and they're gonna medically groom him which I assume means he'll be sedated. Thankfully a rescue organization called New Beginnings arranged for it all and will pay the bill. I am so thankful. This little guy has been through a lot. I can't keep him but I told them I'd hold him till they find a home. The rescue arranges for transports out of town to no kill shelters. The shelters put them up for adoption.

Well, the rescue org stepped up in a big way. They're paying for the dog's treatment. He'll need stitches for the deep wound. And antibiotics. They'll have to put him under to completely groom him. He had a whole lot of stuff embedded deep in his fur. I tried scissor cutting and couldn't get near enough of it out. He was so dirty they thought his color was brown. Its actually white.

When his treatment is done and he's ready to transport, they'll send him to a no kill shelter for adoption. Really looks like the little guy's story will have a happy ending. I won't know how it ends but I'm confident he will be living his best life soon.

I wanted to post before and after pics of the little dog I saved. For some reason the before pics won't post. Said invalid file. He's unrecognizable from the before pic.

The rescue people sent me this after pic. He was medically groomed. Removed all the foxtail and other debri from his ears and paws. Stitched up the wound. Neutered him. And now he's in a foster home being spoiled. Living his best life. The foster lady already said he might be a foster fail. She fell in love with him on the first day.

There's an old saying. You can't change the world. But you can change one dog's world.

So great of you @snackdaddy . Cheers to you. That's one lucky pup that he had you find him.
I put him on Nextdoor to see if maybe he belonged to someone. Several people said that was the same dog people posted about weeks ago. He's been wandering around town that long. Others wanted to rescue him but he wouldn't let them come close to him. He was skittish at first but eventually let me pet him and pick him up. I think he was just so tired he wanted someone to rescue him.

When I brought him home he fell asleep next to my recliner. Probably the first time in a long time he could get real sleep. He may not be capable of feeling appreciation for it. But its a rewarding feeling when you know you made a difference in his life. For all we know God may have put him on this earth to give comfort to someone who is badly in need of it.

I finally figured out how the post the dog's before pic. This is what he looked like when I picked him up. You can't see the deep gash on his hind leg. It was so deep you could see bone. Foxtails were in his ears and throughout the fur. Weed debris embedded so deep the only way to get it out was to sedate him. He had dried mud all over his legs. He was in such bad shape I don't think he woulda survived if I left him there. I just couldn't see it in my heart not to at least try to help him.
