Defense is not the problem tonight - down the road, with 2-3 additions, this D could be more than serviceable. Edge is the biggest weakness, and that lack of a rush is partially why you see these big cushions in the secondary, although it is also just part of Morris's approach. It works with an offense that can score, and he's shown he's capable of making some more aggressive adaptions at times.
But offensively, we are completely one-dimensional, and unfortunately, it's not to something that is a strength right now. We have two good receivers but who tend to carve out specific niches in what they do (or asked to do). Skow, VJ, all the other available WRs are honestly JAGS on another team. TE is OK but nothing that strikes fear in opposing defenses. And the line is still bad, and if we lose a starter - or more - like last year, it is unable to protect Stafford. So you have to run some, if for no other reason, to not get your qb killed. Stafford won't make half a season taking hits like tonight every game. But the your RB is a JAG, too, and that same line is trying to run block without any push.
McVay will have to be a genius if this offense has any success at all, and tonight was not exactly genius label worthy.
Really going to have to invest in the running game this offseason, along with restocking talent up and down the roster, especially on offense and pass rush.
