No reason for this IMO. And we lose A.J. Green to Miami, should have activated Green & released Karty IMO.
49ers probably came calling and they didn't want to lose either kicker.
I’m guessing McVay is not ready to give up on Karty. I’m also guessing that Mevis is not impressing him with his practice kicks. That’s probably the reason for no FG attempts and Evan’s doing kick offs.

So we should jump on the kicker carousel and take a chance on a guy that has literally never kicked a FG in the NFL? This is a real contender team, very dangerous.

IDK, Mevis XP's have been dead solid perfect and those are 33 yard FG's. Plus he is going with Mevis over Karty, so Mevis must be doing something right. The going for it on 4th down makes sense because, it's not like they were 45 yards away and it was 4th and 8. Each time, it has been 4th and less then 5 and IMO, going for it was the right strategy.

I dunno Den. I generally agree with you. But we are only seeing XPs from Mevis. I’m fine with scoring TDs but we can’t become the Lions and go on 4th down virtually every time. If Mevis is so skilled, why is he not doing the kick offs? Wouldn’t that be the kicker’s job?
Our special teams is a mess. We allow big punt and kick returns on the regular. We changed both the kicker and the long snapper after our kicking game fairly suddenly went to shit. Our protections were suddenly getting blown up. Karty changed his kick off style to that knuckler (which was something no one else seemed to be able to do).
I’m thinking McVay is reluctant to fire a coach this deep in the season. But I also think he sees that the whole unit is sub par.
Karty is likely in a dark place right now. But he righted the ship before and McVay may feel that he can right it again.

I think both things are true. I also think that its likely practicing that 'dirty kick' so much messed up Karty....either way though with Karty, he was one of the two changes McVay has made, so I think its safe to say that he did feel like Karty was a large part of the problem.
Evans was the KO guy before, so if McVay just wants touchbacks (which is what we did when the ball only went out to the 30, every time, in previous years) it makes sense. As bad as our KO coverage can be sometimes, I still want us to kickoff short of the goal line and risk it though
