I’ve heard (I think by one of the former refs they have on broadcasts these days) that the refs are told that if the snap is eminent, they will let it go. Not sure how that really works. Seems like an excuse to be inconsistent. But Staff does seem to take it right up to the zero an awful lot. Maybe he gets the benefit of the doubt because he’s been doing it for 17 years and is often making line calls right up to the snap. Dunno.

I've heard this explained a couple of times, by (I think) Dean Blandino.

Apparently they can go over by the time it takes to look at the clock and t hen look at the ball when it hits zero, so they're not required to look at both at the same time.

I do rather like the idea of having an eminent snap.

Your explanation makes more sense. I thought that eminent comment seemed a little odd.

I did read somewhere.. either Reddit or X, that #9 runs the clock down lower on pass plays than on run plays.. how true this is I have no clue

I think that stems from Staff not allowing the D to get set for running plays. Some of the bigger runs come from a quick snap will the d is still making adjustments. It’s not necessarily a tell, because the jet sweeps and draws still require time off the clock

7 XPs and 6 were absolutely down the middle. There was 1 the went a little right but was still good. I'm sleeping better at night with Money Mevis active on the team.

Money Mevis sounds good to me !
But I was not all that thrilled at the Niners starting at the 35 a bunch of times. But I think it will get better over time.

Yeah - just seems a lot more than zero-plus one more often than not.It’s been a couple years,but just sort of frustrating as a Fan that they don’t get the play off on time.I really don’t care what anyone else thinks.It’s just my opinion,and until it doesn’t get called will be my own issue as a Rams Fan !

What it tells me is Mcvay doesn’t get his play calls in on time.It has happened over the YEARS,with other OC’s ,but he is the one who is the final play caller ????

I remember a HAGS FAN of mine who says MCBAYS SUCKS & needs the play head phone in JARED GOFFS EAR until the play clock runs down.He IMO is sort of a Freak in his control of play calling.I HONESTLY don’t know,but my take is Kevin O’Connel real took o er play calling more than AMY OC under Sean.The RAMS WON a SUPERBOWL!!

Of course it’s more than that & I’m talking out the side of my crack.Still IMO there is a little bit to be said about that & I really try to stay in The NOW!! Which is pretty awesome as a long time RAMS FAN !! I really like this team,but if questioned I’d say The Rams & Mcvay still sort of Nuck The System???
Never really thought about the history,but I had to go there only because it happens SO Much & I don’t see AMY FOOTBALL TEAM get AWAY with DELAY of GAME like there offense.

The way Mattew Stafford call a & changes the plays on the Line is Special.I go back years & think that the play clock is the play clock.

I have REF’s a lot of Sports.The thing about the CLOCK is it needs to go into The 10th of seconds.

The classic for years in Basketball is .3 !! .3 you can’t get a shot off,but can tip it in.

Technology is there & you have SO MANY of these FREAKING ANALYSTS on ALL NETWORKS!!

It SUCKS that this is not a TOPIC of THE NCAA or NFL doesn’t break down THE PLAY CLOCK IN TENTHS of SECONDS !!

To think this thread is about a FG KICKER!!! Pretty straight forward,but then again as many 4th DOWN plays are called in an NFL ?

IMO 2025 will BREAK ALL NFL RECORDS for that.Reason also has to ADD an Extra Game by each NFL this season ???

Mevis the Beavis looked goot to me tonight. Gets up on the ball in time. The ball quickly gets altitude and goes straight.
What else do you want ?
Karty is not getting his job back.
I think he has talent but our coach seems to have screwed him up.
Hope he does not overthink Mevis the Bevis. Let the big chunk kick like he wants to.

But that's when McVay would play for field goals instead of touchdowns.... McVay and Stafford finally figured out it's safer to score touch downs and get first downs.... The last three games have been a god send not having to worry about a kicker impacting the game.

Nah. I see lots of teams do it. Maybe not with our consistency but still, other teams take it right down to the wire and then some.

We know McVay has to stop talking at 15 seconds. It seems what takes those extra seconds is Matthew making line adjustments and calling out defensive schemes.

Still, it’s not like he’s getting a full second. It just seems a little late.

But that is like looking at the yellow line as if that is the exact first down marker. The refs make the call on first downs, and they make the call on delay.

And it is nowhere near as egregious as the false starts by the beagles.

Agree wholeheartedly with the last statement but I have wished, for a couple of years now, for a horn on the play clock like the shot click/final buzzer in basketball. Nice idea, but that would be super annoying. Especially when this loud horn goes off even though the ball was snapped before zero.

So the horn goes off any time the play clock reaches zero? Who is responsible for keeping it from going off? I see the clock hit zero almost every snap. Do the teams stop playing when they hear the horn? Does the NFL pull off some miracle and stop the horn before it blows even though they can’t seem to see a simple false start? No thank you.

With all due respect, we may have been watching different games. In nearly every one I watch, nearly without exception, I see the play clock infractions.

I heard on a game once, that the ref had to see it strike zero, turn to see if the ball was snapped, and then call it. It hitting zero and being snapped immediately will never be a penalty.

Well, so far so good. Perfect on PAT's. Everything looks like its in sync. Ball down the middle. Nothing looks close to being blocked. But he still hasn't been tested. I want to see how he does with a kick in the 45-50 yard range. Can we count on him down the stretch in a close game? A game winner as the clock runs out? This I wanna see. Its good we're not settling for field goals and scoring touchdowns. But there will come a time when a field goal is needed.
