NOTE:

Mock Draft ASSUMES pick from Falcons is in the 10 – 12 range and Rams win the Super Bowl.

1a. Caleb Downs, DB, Ohio State 5116, 205

I know. I know. Chances are McVay is going to get an offensive toy at this selection. But I’m going BPA here with someone who can actually start immediately as both Quentin Lake & Kam Curl II as set to be free agents and might become overpriced.

1b. Chris Johnson, CB, San Diego State 6001, 195

His stock appears to already be rising via draftnik media so here I’m giving it a projected All-Star Game bump since players at the bottom of the round will probably have similar grades. Johnson is said to have good speed and capable of playing all coverages while also being good on special teams. Plus, Witherspoon, Durant, and McCreary are scheduled to be free agents, too.

2. Malachi Fields, WR, Notre Dame 6036, 222

5th year player who transferred from Virgina to Notre Dame. Fields is another member of Bruce Feldman’s Freak List. Fields offers the size / speed / length / hops combination McVay was probably looking for when the Rams were rumored to very interested in Mike Evans and Courtland Sutton awhile back.

3. Derrick Moore, EDGE, Michigan 6026,256

View: https://youtu.be/v__uah64f30?si=dl5pZ6jOyWQKPE0c
Rams continue to add to the pass rush rotation with a high motor player that tied Rams EDGE Josaiah Stewart in pressures last season at Michigan. Moore has upped his game and has 9.5 sacks to date.

TRADE: Rams trade a 5th , 6th , & 7th rounder to move up for a higher 5th for a late 4th or high 5th rounder.

5. J.C. Davis, OT, Illinois 6045, 335

Don’t really know much about him. Just saw a guy talk very well of him on YouTube and he has a high PFF grade. I just wanted to make sure I got a decent OT in this mock draft.

6. Joe Fagnano, QB, Connecticut 6032, 225

Fagnano took advantage of an injury and a COVID shortened season and just completed his 7th college regular season with 28 TDs vs. 1 INT for Jim Mora Jr.’s UConn Huskies. Worth a flier. Could turn out to be a gem.

7. Josh Cuevas, TE, Alabama 6032, 256

Alabama QB Ty Simpson’s security blanket, Cuevas has good hands and is a solid blocker and provides the team a potential option in case they decide to move on from Parkinson’s $9 million cap number.

Hard not to love the best defensive player in the draft in Caleb Downs, he's simply amazing. Malachi Fields would be a nightmare for any CB and Chris Johnson underrated. Davis can be a road grader at tackle and now it brings us to Joe Fagnano. When I look at Fagnano, he reminds of a capable backup QB, nothing more. In the 6th round, that's pretty good, just not sure if the Rams are looking for more at that position with two 1st round picks.

As usual, well done, however, if the Rams have their future QB in their sights, don't be shocked if they trade their two first round picks and a player, to get him and methinks that guy could be Dante Moore of Oregon. But again, that is just me.

Could be wrong, but I don't believe 20 year old Dante Moore is going to declare, nor do I believe he should declare.

He could stay another year, it is all going depend on his success moving forward. If he stays, then the Rams could draft like you propose or try to trade out of the first round for another first round next year. But there has to be a succession plan in place and I don't see a younger QB right now in place that might be in their sights for the future.

It's been suggested by many, but I can't help but to wonder if the idea of trading out of the 1st round for another 1st rounder next year isn't just a mere pipe dream. If draftnik media know next year is a potentially a much stronger draft class, I'm sure the NFL teams know.

From what I understand the Jets sure do. That's why they when they traded Quinnen Williams to Dallas for a 1st and 2nd round draft choice, they demanded that the 1st rounder be in 2027.

I really hope the Rams trade their own number one this year and do another first in 27 and a second this year. Another team might want to get back into the bottom of the first this year for someone they really like plus 5 years control on the contract.

Hope springs eternal. Most teams selecting at the bottom of the round will want to oblige such a desperate team. But that's a rare trade. Rams just got lucky last year.

Looks like you better add a run stuffer Memphis. Poona is no kid and him not playing lead to less than optimal results.

Would love for them to pull up Norton from the practice squad to see what he can do. Hamilton stinks so far.
