If Shelton is back, move him to LG and keep Brewer at RG. If Shelton is not back, then go with someone else at LG or better yet, move Jackson to LG & insert Ty Nsekhe to LT per @oldnotdead
It's important to view things objectively.
Yes, our Oline has been decimated by injuries, but McVay has seen Bobby Evans for years now in games and in practices and McVay certainly should have seen that Bobby Evans is not even close to being a serviceable NFL offensive lineman.
So why has he been in there for multiple games now?
A big reason for the lack of success o our running game has been the Rams having overrated Akers and his ability to be our primary back, this in spite of the Rams having seen him up close for several seasons now. We've got to assess players better.
Also, I've watched NFL football almost from birth and, while most observers make it seem that scoring inside of 2 minutes is somehow magical, the truth is that with prevent defences, clock stoppages for spiking the ball, for going out of bounds and for incomplete passes, a good quarterback can move the ball down the field to score quite easily.
So, with Brady's comeback history, McVay should have made it a top priority to go for the first down on the Rams' last drive (and essentially ended the game), even if he had to throw on 2 of the downs.
By running the ball on all 3 downs - apart from it being a cowardly act - McVay sent a terrible leadership message to his offense, to his qb, to his defence and really to the entire team - that he lacks belief in his offense, that he doesn't think that they can get one measly first down and that he lacks the balls to go for the win in crunch time.
As for the defence's performance at the end of the game, it was entirely predictable that all of Brady's passes at the end of the game targeted Kendrick and Rapp, which was a given because every team has been abusing these players in the air in every Rams game.
Why they were on the field with the game on the line, when everyone knows that the other team has to pass the ball and why they are starting for this team is genuinely puzzling.
Every team has some mediocre starters, but these guys have no ability to defend the pass at all.
Kendrick is young and so he may be a player in future, but when teams gameplan to go after you, you shouldn't be starting now.
It's time to try some different alternatives.
Also, let's not overlook the fact that the pass rush is non-existent.
Changes should have been made and internal options should have been considered and tried long ago.
Why we continue to run Hollins and Lewis out there over and over in spite of their lack of impact, is ridiculous. Floyd has been a joke also. Upgrades on both edges are required, we're getting no production there.
The vast majority of our opponents' plays are directed to the right side of our defence and they attack there relentlessly and successfully, game after game.
Yet we never change the edges.
A number of posters have suggested that McVay give up offensive play calling duties.
Given the monotonous, uninspiring play calling, the lack of adjustments and the fact that opponents have locked onto what we're doing, McVay should definitely give up his play calling duties.
It's just not getting done.
Our 11 personnel schemes no longer fool anybody, the league has caught on, many use similar schemes and it appears that we've yet to make the necessary in-game or game to game adjustments to attack how defences are adjusting to us.
It's difficult to see what McVay's Offensive Coordinators actually do, but they seem to have no role in in-game play calling.
We seem to be running very simplistic concepts and their lack of success is entirely predictable.
As for our defensive schemes, too much is being made about us having a top ten defence. That's very misleading.
The truth is that our defence has been whacked by every good offense that we've played this year
Our off coverage is appalling, that combined with some questionable pass defenders and our lack of a pass rush is why the Bills, the 49ers (twice) and the Falcons moved the ball very easily against our D.
Even the Bucs significantly outgained us in spite of their multiple drops.
Ask yourself why the 49ers have difficulty moving the ball against other teams, but they always hammer us.
McVay, it's time to stop talking about accepting blame and the talk about doing better. It's time to start doing it.

I think the staff assessment gets a pass on the Akers front because it is a unique situation with the injury. He may not have shown he was Gurley/Dickerson/Faulk, but he did show promise before the injury. So it's natural to give him a chance to prove to be that guy.
I think discussions around his being timid, or maybe even that he may never be the same, might have resulted in the riff we've seen.

I have a theory on why Bobby Evans has been starting. He has 1 ability that most of our OLers this year don't have. Availibility. LOL. It is the only thing I can think of.
This is it right here. This is where the issues begin IMO. This is why we lose on first down, this is why we’re chasing the sticks, this is why we can’t open running lanes etc.
If you’ve got 5 JAGS up front you do not run 11 personnel and try to get 10, 15, 20 yds on every play. ESPECIALLY when you can’t get 3 yds on the ground.
He’s got to change up the attack philosophy like he did in 2019 and 2020. I thought we’d maybe see it during the bye but nope. Same stuff.
Super frustrating to watch. Defenses may as well be in our huddle and calling run or pass or screen.
I agree Evans never gets rolled up on because he’s never blocking anyone.
It doesn't fit the narrative but the Rams D has given opponents the fewest offensive plays in the NFL and the fewest first downs allowed so far as well. We're 5th in yards allowed 6th in scoring D and 10th in yards per play. But again that doesn't fit the narrative that the defense is soft and sucks.

If we can’t score more than 10 against the Cards we got major problems. Lol, I am saying 10 because we topped out at 13 this past week. I really hope we can get our scoring back to nfl pro level. No reason why other teams around the league make it seem easy to score while we struggle. Makes no sense.
Rams are at 16ppg thus far. They finished at 27ppg last year. Does a severely banged up OL really cost 11ppg?
I realize that’s a simplistic way to look at it…but I don’t think it has to cost you that much. It seems to me that you could adapt and find ways to still be efficient and at least have some moderate success. This is Sean McVay not some buffoon OC like we had in the Fisher days.
I think you can attack defenses differently and focus hard on the short game.
I guess that where I stand is that this is far more of a scheme problem than a personnel problem. The OL injuries are brutal but this is what you’ve got to work with so find a way to move the chains 4-5 yards at a time.
I’m going to keep banging the table for more 12 personnel. Make the defense guess run or pass for starters. Go from there. Sheesh.

It is just bizarre to me....I have no other word for it....for replacing Aboushi with Brewer and not Evans.
Aboushi gave up no pressures the previous week.
Evans gave up pressures and at least one sack.
The staff has to be aware of this....it just makes no sense.
A lot of stuff with this offense this year doesn't make sense.
Also.....can we mix in some passes....besides last second, late dump offs....to the RBs?
Run stuff deeper and clear some space under neath for a RB route....if someone is actually gaining yards leave them in or don't go away from it right away. Drop the jet sweeps for a bit, they are obvious most of the team.
I really want to see the post that states our defense sucks. I don't recall seeing any.
I have always stated they are a very good defense but I want to see better since we are bottom 30 in sacks and turnovers and the offense needs all the help they can get.
I do not see where sucks and very good go hand in hand.
I am clueless.
I will say there were specific plays or drives where they sucked because the scheme did not fit the requirements of that play or drive.
Examples
Ramsey playing 10 yards off Evans and giving up an easy 1st down on 3rd and 6 where earlier he played press on 3rd and 6 against Evans and Brady had to throw it away.
The last drive against Tampa
Those were sucky plays/drives but otherwise the defense has been very good especially in the red zone.
This offense is built to run 11 personnel exclusively and therein lies the problem.

Unfortunately you can have 4 great OL but if the other player is historically bad, then yes it greatly affects the offense.
You can only run so many plays away from Evans.
When Stafford is getting time from other OL but Evans guy is running thru pretty much untouched, then Stafford is going to die out there.
Pretty much what happened to Goff with Blythe at center.
I will have to rewatch the game to check but I saw two plays where Robinson was open for good size gains but Evans did not allow Stafford to check for his second read. He stayed with Kupp both times because he knew he wasn't going to have time to go to his second read.
Edit = And I bet Evans guy getting thru untouched has affected Stafford so much mentally that Stafford's play has been dramatically affected by it.
Yeah but Tony Romo and other "experts" said our D-backs are lining up too deep!! It must be true!!!

On the last 3 drives they were lining up too deep and TB had their longest drives all game and gave up 10 points and a dropped TD pass kept it from being 10 points without needing the third drive
he has a second ability and that is he can stick his arm out and pull it back to signal snap the ball.
it is kind of sad that we have to use a silent count even at home.
Coach McVay you need only to make one change and in fact you need to cut Bobby Evans and put him out of his misery, but more importantly, for our sanity. Running the football more often would help and with jet sweeps, please anybody else but Cooper Kupp, that's how he got injured in Denver.
Again, good call in the Super Bowl, but other than that you have Brandon Powell for sweeps, Jefferson too along with Tutu who should be able to at the minimum run that.
