"You're telling me!" Signed, Jim KellyCase you didnt know winning a SB is hard......
People keep bringing that up even though he JUST signed a big extension AND he made a comment in one of the recent interviews about how he learned so much since his burnout year and has figured out more of a balance and then said something like he's going to coach as long as they'll have him.I'm not worried about McVay burning out or leaving anytime soon. He AND the Rams have figured out how to balance the demands of his job and he's, obviously, loving it.
McVay is a coach.. it's his thing.
I’d go a step further and note McVay went with 2 different QBs.Yeah, I didn't know how to take the comment you're responding to. He's been to 2 in 9 years, played in the CCG in another. That's 33% he's been either in a SB or win and in situation to go to the SB. You're right it's fucking hard. How many did Madden get to in 10 years? One. Parcells? Three.....in 19 years. John Harbaugh? 1 in 18 years.Tomlin? 2 in 19 years. Jim Harbaugh? 1 in 6 years, which equates to 1.5 in 9 years. Some people act like Belichick or Andy Reid or Bill Walsh or .....(name any coach more successful than McVay)..... are the rule instead of the RARE exception. Mike Shanahan? 2 in 20 years. Mike Holmgren 3 in 17 years. Jimmy Johnson 2 in 9 years. And like I said, McVay has done it in the best division in football. Thanks to McVay we EXPECT to be in the Super Bowl (and win it).
Excellent point. It's not like that doesn't make it more difficult. It does. But it's a validation of the system. QB has something to do with it, particularly the different results but like you point out, how many have got there with different QBs? The number is looooow.I’d go a step further and note McVay went with 2 different QBs.
Go down the list of HCs who appeared in SBs and note how many have gone with more than 1. Even Vince Lombardi didn’t do that. Neither did belicheat or walsh.

He said it in one of these interviews:
