So any thoughts on the apparent increased speculation it seems, that the Rams could be interested in JJ McCarthy? Maybe part of a pick swap and other considerations?

He seems fragile, and how good is he? I remember him looking good in the opener in Chicago after sitting out his rookie year. He then won his last 4 starts last year. So at least he showed some flashes.

He might be a lottery ticket? Maybe swap firsts and they throw in a mid round pick? Interesting.
Where is the increased speculation coming from? I am asking because I have only seen a couple people bring it up but nothing more.

I guess the plus is that you don't have to burn a 1st rd pick on a young QB, even if you swap firsts, you still have a top 20 pick. Plus, he has experience in a similar system. Probably would have a better OL if forced to play this year due to injury.

I was going to point out the 5th yr option decision. If he was smart, he would work out a contract at that time that kept him here while he proves himself.

I think it makes some sense if the compensation is minor. A cheap dart throw for a guy who was a first rd pick just two yrs ago.

Oh, ESPECIALLY if a Contract is worked out that irons out the 5th year option. But McCarthy has shown little, while being a bit of an injury case. And also, "Diet McVay" is over there in Minny. What does it say about J.J. if O 'Connell is forsaking him for a shaky, shrimpy, Kyler Murray???

Just some Rams websites/podcasters etc. So not too serious. More speculation. Bill Barnwell of ESPN and a Fox Sports guy also brought it up.

Appreciate it.

I really hope the Rams aren't considering JJ. I just really don't see even a mediocre starting QB there.

You think Dante Moore (Oregon), D.J. Lagway (Florida), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), C.J. Carr (Notre Dame), Dylan Raiola (Oregon. It's unlikely he jumps into this class along with Moore, but more surprising things have happened), Jayden Maiava (Southern Cal), Julian Sayin (Ohio State), Brendan Sorsby (Texas Tech), John Mateer (Oklahoma), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Sam Leavitt (Louisiana State), Darian Mensah (Miami), and Drew Mestemaker (Oklahoma State) - plus Arch, of course - isn't a good class of quarterbacks?

It's a lot deeper than this class; Mensah, Chambliss, Maiava, Sorsby, and Mateer were getting high round buzz for this draft (Sorsby and Chambliss had first-round buzz, in particular) before they went back to college.

That's not even accounting for a quarterback coming out of nowhere like Simpson did. Either way, 2027 is going to be a much stronger quarterback class than 2026.
I'm going to chime in here because it's this kind of discussion that causes me to check-in multiple times daily!

I honestly agree with both of you in an odd way. We all have our own personal opinions and what we value. Of those Mem mentioned, Moore is clearly a better prospect than Simpson. And I personally think Sorsby is going to play in the league a long, long time.

I have no doubt next year's draft will be rich in qb prospects. But to CR's point, we thought this year was going to be fairly rich as well at the same time of the year. A few of those guys on Mem's list are going to pull an Allar and drop out of first round contention. History suggests QB's taken after the first don't pan out (an exception every year or so notwithstanding, though many are drafted). The league knows.

While many of those on Mem's list have physical traits that clearly outperform Ty's, those same dudes have considerable flaws. IMO, Ty just doesn't have the same level of those flaws. I've been wrong many times (thought Lamar would bust, for example), but IMO, Ty has the qualities that suggest he'll be play in the league for a long time. The next Stafford? Highly, highly unlikely. Worthy of the 13th, doubtful but I'll trust McSnead. But until we actually see the prospects listed play next year, when strengths and warts become more clear, I think we should reserve judgement on the notion it's going to be the next '83 class of qb's (not that anyone has said that, but there is certainly a lot of hype about the class).

I'd like Ty. Only at 13 if that's the value my trusted F.O. place on him. To my eyes, mid-20's is his ceiling. But I do think he makes it. Hell, on the WR side, the same traits I value (and I think McSnead do as well) is why I am quietly hoping we take Cooper at 13. The kid is just going to make it (no one knows to what heights). Five years from now, no one is going to give a crap if he was taken 7 picks too early according to prognosticators.

I may have to eat crow for this but here goes:

Do you guys seriously think that Simpson would be better than Bennett in the coming year if Stafford would go down?...because I don't.

I have no confidence in Bennett whatsoever unless it’s a preseason game and even then, he’s been mediocre at best.

So yes I believe that Simpson would be better.
