Hmmm all this love because he's actually doing what he's on the team to do. Yes he's been better thus far and applaud him for that. But kickers are a strange breed. When they go off the rails they struggle to get back on. He's only got to be 100% for 3 more games.
With XP's being 33 yarders, its fair to say that Gay is now 36 for 38 on his kicks in a Rams uni!

It is like they always say you don't realize how important the kicking game is until you don't have a good one. The Rams now have a good, proven kicker. Nice job by the front office!
I didn't want to post anything for because of jinxing him, but Gay has been a nice find. He's young with a big leg & considered one of the better kickers when he came out for the draft. Glad he was available and Hekker convinced McVay to sign him.
As to Johnny Hekker, I wonder if he's hurt. Because he seems to punching at the ball when punting and not getting the high leg kicks, he has in the past.

I’ve asked the same thing about Hekker. He must be hurt. He’s not pulling his Driver out of the bag. He seems to be using an Escape wood instead. I think we need to let him throw a pass soon to get him out of this funk. It’s time.
Plus they've added a punter to the PS, which makes me feel, Hekker is not punting during practice.

I feel at ease whenever Matt Gay is kicking.......unlike when Sloman came on the field I was sweating bullets. Now to get a special teams coach.
So you're saying your dad has gotten to you with that whole "kickers are not real people" thing.
I honestly believe that he's focusing on eliminating returns rather than kicking distance. We're not getting coverage downfield NEARLY as quickly as we have in the past, so that's why he's having to kick shorter or aim for the sideline so much more.
I really thought they would pull a fakie in the wild card game
Think it was 4th and 4 around our 40. Maybe just needed to give the D a bit more time to rest up

GZ had more leg, but the harder he hit it the more the football moved right and left.
Gay,s kicks always get real high, real fast, very straight and he has more than enough leg for 50+ yard kicks.
I will take that. We all seen GZ miss kicks he should have made his last 2 years. The one in NO in the playoffs was epic but its like rolling the dice with him.

How was this guy not on a roster already is the real question? He's got a boot and has been very accurate for us.
