Peters makes a good zone CB in a defense that wants their CBs to take chances for big plays. In a defense where there is someone better than him he makes a great zone CB cause they can pick their match ups better. What Peters is not is a man, press the line CB. He's soft and does not have either the physical ability or the want to get physical... not sure which.
FINALLY, Wade figured that out before the bye and he's been playing much better. Especially with Talib on the other side. Peters match ups have been great for the most part. What our problem all season has been is that our safeties and CBs seem to not be working together. Some of that is scheme (wade admitted to leaving MP on an island at end of Saints game in press coverage which he had already proven to be bad at), some of that is CBs (MP should have still got a hand on Thomas and not made it so damn easy to run right past him), and some of it is the safeties seemingly not knowing who to pick in coverage (seeing Joyner studder step multiple directions while not committing while a receiver runs straight past him is getting old). Hard to say who is more in the wrong without knowing the assignments but either way it's been embarrassing at times.
Add in atrocious run defense and the defense is just on its heels constantly trying to decide how to commit. Back to Peters though I don't see any reason not to keep him for the 5th year. At worst he is a good zone CB who can be matched up to players well. And hopefully if the defense starts playing together better and we get a little run defense in the offseason he'll start getting those turnovers again too. Past next year though would depend on his expectations and play after it.
