That is such a broad and general term for soft....
Well... when you're competing at the highest levels of something, it applies.

Boxing is a great, great analogy..
You think Mike Tyson wasn't soft when he got smoked by Buster Douglas?
Because he was... and, compared to you and me? He's ALWAYS terrifying and tough!!!

the way you are using soft though.. anyone who loses is soft... that's not what soft means...

Go into the locker room and tell the players how soft they have been playing - you will get exactly what they think it means,,,,

soft is a lot more than just "losing"

its playing a nickel defense against a jumbo formation.

it was bad strategy - were getting around to it slowly here in this thread.

I'd even say its the OPPOSITE of SOFT - believing that your guys are so bad ass that they can stop a run game with minimal resources.

Yes his strategy is soft. Like his coverages lol

It absolutely means that.

Mental toughness propels physical toughness.. you have to be unified in mind and body in preparation. When I call a team soft, I'm comparing it to the team it's playing and the other teams it plays.

This isn't about how tough the guys on the team are compared to me, that's silly.

Mental note:. Do NOT use the word "soft" around Ellard80. It is apparently his trigger word.

Go Rams. If the guys come out and play less "Charmin-like" vs Green Bay...all is forgiven.

doesnt have to be compared to you.. tell your co-worker he or she is "soft" because they failed at something.

it implies weakness and more - you know this though and are just trying to talk around it.

You think the team that prepares better always wins or dominates? Doesn't always happen that way.

The term "soft" isn't like make believe.. but it just gets thrown around a lot by frustrated sports fans...

I hope you’re kidding.

What do we tell people when they fail?

“You gotta be tough.”
“Keep your nose to the grindstone…”
“Put on your big boy pants..”
“Take it like a man..”

What do you think that all means?

Mental toughness is almost always pointed to as the difference maker for elite athletes. They all have incredible physical capacity.

Those are all statements having to do with enduring failure or setback....

by your definition the moment you have any failure or setback you are "soft"

Not at all. If the Rams came out, played a clean and solid game? Better team wins, sometimes.

Much like Tyson, they weren’t ready.

If you know someone well enough and see patterns to their failures, if you actually care, you’ll be honest, even if it hurts feelings.

How did the Rams respond to getting mauled by the Titans and losing to the 9ers 4 times in a row?

Not well.

If I lose a fight to someone because I’m not mentally and physically ready to compete?

Hell, yes, I’d be soft.

I don’t take exception to that kind of criticism when I fail. I certainly don’t point the finger at others when it comes to my performances.

No, you could slug it out with a team in a physical game and come up a few plays short.

Or you can get routed by a team playing smash mouth football and look soft.

In fact you can even win a close game against a lesser talented team and look soft in comparison.

Vermeil essentially said that after SB34.... Said his team had to get tougher next yr, after pulling out two very tough physical games against Tampa & Tenn.

that qualifier is hard to quantify - so you go into a fight.. you have prepared well - you believe you have a plan that will work - but then you get your ass kicked...

you were soft? Your definition of soft is all over the place.

I agree that it's less about the players mindset and more about scheme. The fact that they sat back in soft zones all day and didn't disrupt kittle on the line or play any press on their wrs played right into the 49ers hands. They constantly played with a lack of numbers in the box, and when they did it was with a light personnel grouping.

Offensively, Mcvay needs to run the ball and run play action. The empty stuff has some uses with Stafford's ability to make adjustments.. but doing this constantly and with tempo with a thin roster at wr and TE is just asking to wear those guys out.. which leads to drops and mistakes.

It's less about individual players toughness and more about team approach which is more on the coaches. This is why ramsey was so upset I believe.

Ok, if you don't wanna call them soft thats fine. I'm saying their identity is that of a finesse team. A finesse team that has trouble with teams who play more physical against them. And guess what label comes with teams that are considered finesse?

If I get physically dominated? By someone who is supposed to be on the same level?

Then I came out soft.

Competition doesn’t build character, it reveals it.

Let’s put it this way-they were at least soft last night.

One example: When Deebo is catching 5 yard passes and taking them to the house because our guys are bouncing off him like he’s the Incredible Hulk and our WRs are dropping passes left and right in anticipation of getting lit up I’d call that one example of being soft.

The reason we have trouble though is not really the ability to be physical - it was the strategy.

We were trying to play a pass defense against a jumbo like formation - more than anything its arrogance and poor adjustments.

We finally did adjust late in the 2nd half but we were already down by a lot.

oh thank you an actual example of being soft... dropping a pass because you are about to get hit would be an example.

I'm not sure that happened last night.. but that at least makes sense.

We have trouble tackling Deebo... but he also leads the nfl in RAC - so most teams have trouble tackling him.
