Young QB. I am going to enjoy watching him grow. This season ain't over yet, there is plenty of opportunity for him to lead us through clutch games like he did in New Orleans in the playoffs last year.

Goff is building. I don't know why everything has to be so crazy with him. Look up Manning's first 3 seasons or those of all the greats. He is among them so far in most measurables.

Jared Goff IMO is the most unappreciated QB in this league and it is going to be glorious when he shuts the doubting media the F up.

Here's a fun statistic.

Jared Goff has taken 12 sacks thus far this season.

So, Goff has the best sack rate in the league.

Come on with this all this sack rate stuff.

Goff no doubt has been getting sacked way too much before and after games.

This girl has sacked him more than his college and pro football career combined!

Message for our Quarterback.

I've done a thorough scouting report on this sack master.

When she lines up on your blind side, you need to be expecting her to come early and often!

She has a sneaky sly swim move and is very good at stripping balls right before you reach your launch point.

She knows all of your tendencies so keep an extra tight grip on the ball and never stare down your tight end when you feel her coming from behind you.

Always be in quick release mode or she will get a firm hold of your body and thrust you to the ground slamming all of her weight on top of you without mercy.

Her sack dance is mesmerizing and all you can do is look up at her with a surreal daze.

I see inconsistency in Goff’s performances this year.

He makes some fantastic throws then he puts up some head scratchers like that throw into triple coverage in London.

I get that he’s got a bad OL and the running game is not helping him anywhere near what it did when Gurley was a force, but Goff is still not completing as many passes as he should.

according to NEXTGEN STATS, Goff is very bad in expected completion %. He ranks 35 out of 38 QBs. This relates to what can reasonably be expected to be a completion to what he actually completes.

And I get that it’s only one stat that may be scrutinized as subjective, but it’s clear to my naked eye when I watch him on the field that he leaves too many throws out there and still makes poor decisions.

His passer rating of 86.5 isn’t nearly what a top QB should have regardless of his OL. And I get that he’s being asked to carry more of the offense now, but with the salary he’s making he should be.

So, I’m gonna lean toward the conservative side on Goff. I need to see more before I classify him as a QB who can excel consistently without a lot of things around him being great, like guys such as Brady, Rodgers, and Wilson. There’s a reason people look at a team with average talent on offense and say, well at least they have Wilson, or Rodgers, or Brady. No one says that about Goff yet, not even close.

Haha, I think the frustration comes from irrational fear of going back to being a losing team. As for me, I never saw any cause for concern at all. Does he make "WTF" throws from time to time? Yes.

This is the only thing I see wrong with Goff.
Nice thread by the OP...good stats. Yes, he's one of the best in the league.

Look at Russell Wilson... He is having his best year at 31. Goff has 6 more years to reach that, and by then, he will be looked at as one of the best in the game, and probably a future hall of famer.

"Expected % completion stat?", Who decides what could have been completed? From watching a video? How can you gage what can be completed or if the rec was at fault for an inc?

This stat mean absolutely nothing.

I mean yeah, Goff isn't on their level yet. It is what it is, he's not. He's a pocket quarterback with an offensive line that hasn't 100% gotten its footing yet. He most definitely has been inconsistent this year, and no one has done him any favors outside of Kupp. No Alshon Jeffery to make contested jump balls, rarely any 3 to 5 yard dump off passing options. Goff is a Quarterback playing on All Madden (Very Hard mode for you non Madden players) after laying a stinker in the superbowl.

And yet despite that, he is responsible for leading us down field several times rather than just 3 and outs the whole game. Some throws were questionable in London. But he was also averaging 12 yards per attempt. There is nothing wrong continuing to evaluate your own QB. But keep things in perspective.

Last two years we weren't having this discussion. We are now because his play has been rough. He's only getting paid like a top QB because of what he means to McVay. It's not about QBR's, and the opinions of other fans. Its about McVay putting us in the best possible situation to win. And right now, Goff gives us the best chance to win to McVay. So until Goff pulls a Mariota, we continue to evaluate him. But for now, there is nothing wrong about gushing about the mans potential with a consistent line, while we continue to win in spite of it.

maybe it’s too subjective, but there are 25QBs with a better completion % than Goff. but hey, let’s explain that one away with some creative extenuating circumstances. Too many drops, bad play calls, too much pressure, or some other excuse.

the bottom line here is I watch these fucking games multiple times, then I watch the all-22. And I see a QB who misses too many throws, and makes too many boneheaded decisions for a top QB. He ain’t that guy yet. He is too inconsistent to be that.

Does he have the talent and ability to be that? I think so. But I need to see more before I say he’s that guy.

that’s a great point about Goff not having a guy who will win contested balls. He can’t just throw it up to any of his WR/TE and expect them to either outjump or outmuscle the defender. Actually, Cooks stinks at that and Reynolds is even worse when you consider his size. Everett has small hands which hinders his ability to make out of frame catches.

who do we have that we feel good about catching a fade?

You’re not the only one watching these games multiple times, Goff indeed has missed, what? 7-9 open throws this year (typically under duress) boneheaded decisions you say, meh what QB doesn’t at times, I disagree with your “too many” assessment considering he’s a classic drop back passer and being such takes a little more time to develop than your dual threat one read phenom.

Wasn’t Mora’s epic “PLAYOFFS” rant during Peyton’s 4th season? and make no mistake, that rant was about his QBs play and decision making

My bottom line, is if one has actually watched Goff from the beginning of his NFL career, and still needs more time to decide if we have the right guy, then we’re just going to have be in complete disagreement

Interesting statement from PFF on Goff who they rank 12th at mid season, which sounds about right.

12. JARED GOFF, LOS ANGELES RAMS
Goff got off to a fantastic start last season, but it’s been a steady decline since late in 2018. He’s thrown about the same percentage of positively graded throws this season, but his negatives are up 4.6%, the second-highest percentage in the league. Goff’s done his best work off play action, as he’s thrown for a league-high 4,262 yards while averaging 9.9 yards/attempt since 2017, but questions arise when he has to consistently make throw after throw in must-pass situations.

Well gee, do we think his stats would be a tad better if we had a better running game and pass blocking? His play action was much better '17-mid '18 because of the run game and serious threat Gurley posed. Honestly, and I've said it in multiple posts, I'd rather have JG than 2/3rds of the remaining starters. My biggest concern with Goff? Is that he will get pummeled into submission (or develop happy feet) over time. Fix the o-line and the run game and JG will be more than likely Elite!

Which is why letting the line go to crap made so much sense, I suppose.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The decision was made to not spend on the interior OL. The Rams have the cheapest salaries spent on the interior OL of any team in the NFL. The most expensive guy is Blythe at about $2mil, and he stinks.

Our brain trust poured money into Gurley, Goff, Donald, Higbee, and Havenstein. They are not taking the Cowboys approach, for sure. It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys pay for Dak, Amari, and that CB they love.

haha, what?

brady has the most important thing around him his whole career which has been the best in the league. his oline consistently gives him 5 seconds to throw the ball. doesn't matter who his receivers are if he has that much time to find an open man.

Simms reconsidered that after the Seattle game. Said Goff played great.

Shit, Simms said the Bucs game was the best he's ever seen from JG....
