@Riverumbbq
Jourdan Rodrigue's comments about Allen came before he took a pay cut this offseason.

Michael Hoecht, when interviewed stated that he was playing EDGE. They could move him later, but I doubt it given the pressure he produced just learning the position.

@dieterbrock
According to overthecap.com, Higbee has a $9,125,000 million cap number right now. If he's cut after June 1st, his dead cap space is $2,375,000 and the cap savings would be $6,750,000.

I’m confident Higs would be the best TE on the roster in 2023. But I’d bet the plans are to replace him by 2024. Obviously it would be best to trade him to relieve themselves of a chunk of his cap and pick up a 5th?? Or 6th round pick?? No hurry but that $$ could be used to add a good chunk of change to the 2024 cap coffer.

Either that was before the pay cut, or she was working with old information.

Or maybe overthecap.com is wrong. But before they showed a cap savings of moving on from Allen. They do not show that cap savings anymore. Not in 2023 at least.

This was produced after the Brian Allen restructure by about 1 week, some were actually speculating being a post June cut would be more financially feasible for the Rams. If not a straight cut, perhaps an injury settlement would work. jmo.

That's correct, however they will additionally push near 3 mill of dead cap to 2024
It's 5+ mill dead cap to cut him, I just dont see how they could afford to lose his production for such a minimal cap save

Agreed, I still think a modest 2-3 year extension is more likely than him getting cut.

It's less in 2024 if he's traded.

I'm just looking at $1,758,181 in cap space (per overthecap.com) with no draft choices signed yet as not being enough to make it through the season. Do they really want to restructure Donald, Kupp, and/or Stafford yet again?

BTW, I may be in the minority on this, but I believe his production could be offset, by Hopkins, Long, and Allen with 2 of the 3 (if not all 3) being better blockers.

I do agree we could survive without Higs. He's not so productive that they would be up shit creek without him, but he's solid and stable and those other guys seem flaky in comparison. Room just looks better with him.

Now if either Long or Hopkins have a strong camp or Allen comes in hot it would make more sense I suppose. But it feels risky.

I'd be interested in seeing that list of potential cuts they probably have. Guessing there's a few names on that list beside Higs and maybe it will come down to camp and how things shape up.

Camp or OTA’s. Does anyone know if that matters. Meaning cap numbers & dead lines ?

2024 doesnt change, after June 1 there is a cap hit of 2.85 mill in 2024.

At this point it makes zero sense to cut Higbee. That is pre-FA period talk and it’s non-sensical now. Outside of being traded during the year he’ll be on this roster throughout the year.

Take a look at your overthecap.com picture. Notice it says Pre-June 1st.
Go back to that site and change it to trade or cut POST June 1st and you'll see that the 2024 dead cap number goes from $2,850,000 to $950,00. The remaining dead cap figure is spread to 2025 & 2026.

This defense is starting to look....not so terrible to me.

AD comes on strong, at least two of the rookies prove to be solid pass rushers, Hoecht and Jones take a step forward, Fuller comes back and plays well, Durant becomes a decent starter, Tomlinson plays well...if even half of that happens, our defense is probably the same statistically as it was last season.
