LA Rams newly signed nose tackle A’Shawn Robinson won’t face his former head coach Matt Patricia this season, or likely any other season in the foreseeable future. That’s due to the mildly surprising announcement today that the Detroit Lions have fired both GM Bob Quinn and HC Matt Patricia today.
While the news was expected eventually, the timing of the announcement today, with five games left in the season, was intriguing. As of today, the Detroit Lions are 4-7. While they have a snowball’s chance in hell of running the table and with help getting a berth in the NFL Playoffs, they are realistically playing for pride, position in the 2021 NFL Draft, and for their next contracts.

Some players did not have a chance to re-sign with the Lions. Former Lions defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson was one such player. After his rookie contract expired, the Lions made no effort to re-sign him. Eventually, he landed with the LA Rams and has just returned from injured reserve.
But bad experiences are not easily forgotten. It’s clear that Robinson felt slighted by the way the Lions handled him in the past. When news of the Lions firing both HC Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn, Robinson was quick to chime in.

The Rams signed A’Shawn Robinson to help anchor the defensive line in the off-season. While the Rams have not seen much playing time from Robinson just yet, He has been part of the Rams’ two-game winning streak after the bye. While he hasn’t shown up big on the box score, he’s certainly been felt at the final score.
The LA Rams have slowly been increasing Robinson’s workload. That’s good because he has already proven to be very difficult to move out of the running lanes. With the Rams losing ILB Micah Kiser to Injured Reserve, Robinson will be critical for the Rams run defense. So, in many ways, the Rams can be grateful for the job Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia did during their time with the Detroit Lions. But don’t tell A’Shawn Robinson that. I don’t think he’s very happy with either man right now.

The NFL is a tough business. Player careers hang in the balance to a coach’s scheme. Today, the players for the Detroit Lions hope that their careers can be saved with a new head coach.

Matt Patricia is further proof that being very smart doesn't inherently translate to being a good person or a good football coach.
What I find weird with these guys is how they try to emulate Belichick with the bedraggled look, cutoff hoodie etc. not so coincidental Brian Flores appears to have his own style. Maybe these dopes should realize that being an asshole and dressing like a hobo isn’t what makes coaches successful

I made it to midway through the 4 the quarter before I stopped watching.
Couldn't see any leadership whatsoever, which surely starts off the field.
I could certainly feel a lack of team spirit.

True that. I would surmise that being "smart" or thinking you are smarter than others often leads to pride, if you are not careful. A lack of healthy humility and recognizing that you don't know everything is critical. Especially in a team sport such as this with so many parts. If you can't trust your assistants and players and listen and learn from them then you will be blindsided. You will see only a small part of the big puzzle that needs to be solved every week and every year. This is why Mcvay excels in my book, among other things. He sets a standard and culture of excellence and humility. He hires smart hard working good character guys. He trusts them and empowers them to communicate what they see, they work as a team to create a gameplan and adjust in-game, and especially at halftime, to be better as a whole with each part respected and valued correctly. It's a beautiful thing to see and should probably be a textbook case taught in leadership seminars and schools across the country. It aint rocket science, Bro.
FWIW I was rooting for Matt Patricia although you should never trust a man with two first names. Anyways Patricia played his college ball in this area at a Division III (they don't call that anymore) RPI a fine close to IVY League Engineering School.
However, most Engineers are not great communicators (See Herbert Hoover & Jimmy Carter) and apparently Patricia suffered from that besides other things. Also was glad he got hired by Detroit because I wanted that fan base to experience some good things, however, that did not happen. I have a message for the Lions...Hire Matt Campbell of Iowa State and call it day!

I concur, some young Offensive Coach will hire him as their DC. If Rams OC Kevin O'Connell gets a gig I could see that match up or where ever Patriots Executive Nick Caserio ends up. I also like at the very minimum one College Head Coach coming to the NFL, either Riley of Oklahoma or Campbell of Iowa State or maybe Jim Harbaugh and Campbell replaces Harbaugh at Michigan.

They haven't had a star player since Megatron. Matt Stafford's career has been wasted. No running game since Barry. Bad defenses. I don't think this is all on Matt Patricia. Something is wrong with the org itself.
Dudes I looked at every draft they made since taking Matt Stafford. Wow, either the player never panned out, and those that did, they didn't resign and are starting on other teams. That's 11 years of players (sans Kenny Galloday and the recent drafts).

I think they give Robert Saleh a shot. As per NFL Fox. Detroit has a huge Lebanese community and he's part Lebanese.
I'd imagine the Lions will screw up the new hire by trying to make some kind of PC splash with the league. I feel pretty confident they'll figure out how to screw it up regardless of who the poor soul is that gets the job.
