I see the practicality in letting Amendola leave for a 2nd round pick, but he's just one of those guys on this team that I'd rather not see leave. His suddenness in and out of breaks allows him to get separation from linebackers and defensive backs pretty quick, so he doesn't have to "fight" for the ball. He does a good job of tracking balls on the run, adjusts really well to poorly thrown passes, and has very reliable hands. He's basically good for 5 yards every time the ball is thrown his way; and most importantly, he's Bradford's favorite target.

When I watched Salas, he looked like he was out of place in the slot. Not that he was a liability there, but moreso that he looked like he could be a perimeter receiver and be more productive in that role. He's got size (6'2 210#), decent speed (4.5's), and he's really physical. And I know he was a slot receiver at Hawaii, and had ridiculous numbers in that role, but..... I dunno. I just see him beating press and shedding tackles on the outside while winning jump balls and stiff-arming fools for big gains. Just a preference, really. I'd like to see that happen -- just to see what it looks like.

It's a tough one really. I don't look at Danny from the view of where he or his potential replacements were picked. Could the Rams get equal value with that 2nd round pick and throw Salas - for example - in his place? I'm just not sure. Often there are those players that have talent and a gift. And then there are those that simply do what you need done. I view Danny in that latter category. I just see him as one of those players that will ALWAYS do those little things to get you that 3.5 yards on 3rd and 3 or that ten yards on 2nd and long. When your returner goes down - in comes Danny and you hardly miss a beat. QB in trouble? Who is working back toward him? Danny. Throw a ball at the turf and who goes to get it? Danny. Is he all that good? Probably not. Is he a player that virtually every team needs? Pretty much.

Since we never agreed on a receiver before (I still can't believe you bought into that Holt guy) this is new territory.

I see all that stuff with Salas but there's a couple of things more. What I didn't expect from him is how quick his feet are. He really does have the kind of quick feet you find on guys who can run routes well. And yeah, the physical stuff--the second he catches the ball, if he doesn't clearly have a run lane, he instantly lowers his shoulder and goes for the nearest defender. It's instantaneous--catch, aim, hit. Salas plays with malice.

Would you consider doing a Salas as a Ram highlight vid sometime?

You have me confused with someone else, I think. Holt was as overrated as overrated gets. If it weren't for Ricky Proehl taking the pressure off of him, he'd have been a bust right out of the gates. Scrub that he was. Riding Proehl's coattails like that. Oooooh he gets me so angry.

Yeah, Salas is pretty quick too. He was a bit sloppy with his routes, but that's pretty much to be expected when you have no camp and have to learn multiple positions in a new system. He started coming on strong though once he got out of his own head and started playing ball. And then..... crack. That really sucked for him (and us). I'd definitely make a video of him as a Ram, but there simply aren't enough clips right now. If the Rams take my advice this year, then that won't be a problem.

Well, here's the great thing.... As far as I'm concerned and probably many others, it's a win/win situation.

Nooooo. Amendola is proven. Don't trade away a proven guy for an unknown, unless he's a douche. And Danny is no douche.

as a rookie salas looked better than amendola has ever looked. my money is on fisher looking at the tape and seeing he has something in salas so if any team offers danny a sizable contract he will let him walk and collect the 2nd rounder.

You are probably right. I'm sure Fisher feels there are only a handful of players on this team he is willing to keep at all costs. And the way WRs are getting paid this year, he might rather have a 2nd round pick rather than pony up for a WR coming off an injury.

Difficult one.

We all have to bear in mind that Fisher has no connection or loyalty to Danny and that all he really is is a specialist dump off guy who excelled in Schurmur's offence since it was the NFL's only extended hand-off based attack.

On the other hand, he can find a soft spot in the zone, has great hands and has a rapport with Sam.

I say since we have a replacement in Salas, use the (mythical) 2nd round choice on a place that really needs upgrading like OLB.

I guess since Mike Holmgren was complaining that Les and Jeff wouldn't trade with him, send Danny to Pat and he for their 2nd round pick and then upgrade the OLB position with someone like Zach Brown or Lavonte David.

Now, I could live with that!
