Eisen begins with inquiring about why they drafted WR C.J. Daniels in the 6th round, nice! Then talking about certain people not having their stem degrees and working in football. Overall, great breakdown of the pick of Simpson and how McVay & Simpson speak the same football language, which was well above Snead's head.

Les giving you a micro breakdown then a macro breakdown of Simpson with Eisen commenting on the Auburn alum will do anything to win because his QB room is two from Georgia and one now from Alabama. I always enjoy listening to Les Snead plus him putting in proper perspective how much time he and McVay spend together and that Grumpy Sean is just Tuesday Sean during the season.

I think the initial shock is over for most. Many of us thought they'd pick an immediate contributor for a team that is built to win now. But when you listen to the interviews since the pick, you understand what went into the thought process. Its not something they just decided on the spur of the moment.

Could Simpson have been available a little later in the round? Its possible. But you gotta have the right trade partner to pull it off. And its also possible a team like the Jets or Browns who need a quarterback might pick him ahead of the Rams. Or possible trade ups from team early in the 2nd round. There were rumors the Cardinals were showing interest in that.

Was it a reach to pick him at 13? A position they don't need to fill right now? Probably. But if he's the guy they were targeting all along, they did not want to risk losing that.

Then there's the rookie contract aspect. If he turns out to be that guy, paying him on the rookie deal allows them to retain some of their key players who are gonna be free agents after the season. Dotson, Parkinson, Puka, Avila, Turner and Young after this season. Verse, Fiske and Kinchens after the following season. They are all important pieces to maintaining a high quality roster.

I think he fits McVay and his offense perfectly. And the most important is his fit with McVay. It appears he is a football nerd like McVay. So if McVay can't get a smart vet QB, the next best thing is to go get a football savy kid, a coaches kid, who eats this shit up. They should be a perfect match.

Now they can consider moving a high 27' pick for a impact addition, whether it be now, during camp, or at the trade deadline if an injury hits.

They used one high pick, in a weak draft at the top, to get a kid who I feel will be a very good QB in this system. I recall how well he was playing last October & early November, when he was considered a top 5 pick, and thinking whether the Rams could get a shot at him. Well, we have him, and I am happy about it.

There's always gonna be some people who don't like the pick. And they will keep not liking it after its over and done. And they will let anyone who will listen they don't like the pick.

Did I like it at the time? No I didn't. Of course I'm guilty of being part of this instant gratification society. I wanted someone like Lemon or Cooper. Even an offensive lineman wouldn't satisfy me. He likely wouldn't start year one.

The thing is, how often does a rookie change the fortunes of a team? Would one of those guys be a difference maker this year? No one knows. One thing we do know is the pick is designed for down the road. Not this year. I just hope I live long enough to see the results in 4 or 5 years.

I thought about it. I turn 60 this year. I was thinking if this kid really works out, and has like a 15 yr career, I will be 75, God willing, when we need a new QB. So I will probably have a few more marbles rolling around my head by then. My posts will read like So Ram's posts at that point.
