This is why teams shouldn't use 1st round picks and significant cap money on running backs.

Draft them in the 2nd-4th rounds and replace them when they are hurt.

I disagree. Gurley has been a huge part of our success. Let’s not get too reactionary and see how things go.

Will you feel the same way if he rests up and takes us to the title?

1 player puts up 21 TDs(1st) and 1,831 (4th)yards from scrimmage and you think that could be easily replaced by a mid to late round draft pick? By the way the other 3 players ahead of Gurley in yards from scrimmage are also 1st round picks.

I love Gurley but the point is valid and remains so due to the basic supply and demand of the position.

You can find RBs well into most drafts and building a strong stable of guys on the depth chart who can do it by committee is a valid approach. Maybe the wisest approach. Basically using that supply and demand side of things to put your draft and cap space value into the more difficult to find positions.

That's not to say I'd go so far as to call the signing of Gurley a mistake, however. He was a key part of our offense and locking him up at that place in time demonstrated the team is willing to reward the right players. But fact remains from a business perspective paying RBs big money is extremely risky.

Nah if you have a chance to take a player you think has generational ability, you do it. You weren't saying this when he was the OPOTY last year, I assume.
The guys who like disposable RB's come out of the woodwork with an injury...Gurley could be a HOFer RB, and you don't dispose of guys like that.

Most of us were thinking that something was different, those 40-50-60 yard runs turned into 15-20. When TG went off against the hags last year he was just faster than everybody on defense and it wasn’t close, and even though he’s got 1200 yards while only probably playing 14 games, which ain’t nothing to sneeze at, seems like that take it to the house speed hasn’t been there.

Lets us all know how special he is to have all that production on a bum wheel.
