We did. I was at RTC Great Lakes from Jan.9, 1983 for 8 weeks (Company 014) Company Commodes were BT1 Bautista and HT1 Rauer
I was at NTC Great Lakes for BEE and ET "A" school from Mar. 1983 to April-May 1984.
So you were a nuclear field machinist mate?Hah! We probably crossed paths at some point. I was in BEE until the end of Mar. '83 until shipping out for sub school.

Wow. Why didn't they just make you go to ST "A" school in Great Mistakes? You missed the joy of Kenosha, WI for real beer...or did you get after it with that 3.2 beer at the enlistment man's club. I don't remember a ST "A" school at NTC San Diego. I later got shore duty at Naval Ocean System's Center on Point Loma from 1984-1986Ha ha, nope, sonar tech. Went to sub school then went out to sunny San Diego for ST 'A' school and a 'C' school after that. Ended the year in Newport News shipyard, where my boat was under construciton.

Tell me about it. I lived off base and got paid for it In San Diego. I had 14 section duty and got every other Friday off because the civilian engineers which we assisted got that (I was an ET). Three day weekends every other weekend. Hell, the big decision most mornings was what sort of bagel with cream cheese of which i had to choose after muster. What a freakin' shock when I went to the fleet in 1986....lolDid go up to Milwaukee once during my time at Great Mistakes, to a bar called The Safe House. Drinking age was still 18 then.
ST 'A' school was on the ASW base, separate from NTC, at the corner of Nimitz and Harbor. All the sonar techs, surface and sub, went to school there. It's not there anymore, not sure when it was closed, think sometime in the 00's. Enjoyed it out there though, the weather was spectacular.
THAT would be pull top heaven!Oh man... listen to this;
Back in the mid 1980’s my Mom volunteered for the Girl Scouts and they held can recycling drives in a nearby church parking lot...
One day a guy drops off his beer can collection.
Keep in mind... mid 1980’s... and it was already a collection.
Mom grabbed those bags and put in her car.
I still have this. 3 boxes in my garage.
I opened them a few months ago... that collection was nice, with lots of weird ones... and back then it wasn’t the microbreweries of today. So there are some from all over.
I could spam this thread with photos. Maybe I’ll post a few this weekend.
Boy can I relate to that.and back then it wasn’t the microbreweries of today.

Hell yeah. I started collecting beer cans in 1978, and had a pretty massive collection within a year. I had several of those cans too. My friend and I used to go "beer can hunting" regularly. We'd go to remote locations and walk through the woods looking for cans. We found MANY flat-tops (cans you needed a can opener to open), and I remember one time I found a black Budweiser Malt Liquor can. Unfortunately, my dick of a dad threw them all away one day because he felt like it. Those were fun times though. We used to write some of the corporations like Schmidt and Coors and ask them if they could send us any *irregulars* or misprints they had, and we had quite a few of those as well. Thanks for the memory, Daniel San.Here are most of those beer cans. I could make 3/4 more size stack with some others.
Count how many you’ve drank! lol
A few of these, mostly those Schmidt’s and a couple others were still full!
One was leaking so... I pulled the tab @Loyal! It was awesome and after I did it... said to my wife “I should have recorded that”. (But not what poured out... )

The wildlife cans? I'm not aware of any story, other than they were commissioned by some artist.Ever hear the story with Schmidt and the animals? Those cans were always my favorite.
I don't remember, if I did.

I aint admitting it here, cuz the Canucks might get me for bootlegging that Schmidt's beer! But that can of Schmidt's that I outright chugged was better than an IPA! ~CGIHere are most of those beer cans. I could make 3/4 more size stack with some others.
